Fox says ssi people will get it
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/do-you ... ponse-bill

Quote:
The bill text indicates those who receive social security can collect checks: For those not required to file 2018 or 2019 tax returns because of social security benefits, tax returns aren’t required to claim the money -- the government can use information from a Form SSA-1099, Social Security Benefit Statement, or Form RRB-1099, Social Security Equivalent Benefit Statement.

So I am confused still...

"That said, not all older people who are already reliant on government assistance are immediately eligible for a rebate. According to Steve Wamhoff of the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP) think tank, the current bill excludes recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a federal welfare program granted to elderly and disabled people who are often living in poverty and, in many cases, aren’t required to file tax returns".

How lovely that they end that promising article on this sour note. What the hell? No comments about why the elderly and disabled are excluded when living in poverty?

Epic fail, USA.

Different articles are saying different things... Me and the two guys I am staying with all get SSI so we're hoping.

Their logic is probably that people on SSI / SSDI aren't losing income. Fair enough. But what about the price gouging on essential supplies, and the sudden increase in costs for people to buy ... anything? Not to mention the loss of disability or support services?

I just don't get it. I'm not American but I'm facing the same issue with my disability payments.

It would be fair if people still able to work (e.g., grocers) didn't get assistance, because they are still being paid a wage. It doesn't make sense to me when they get a supplement AND a wage, at the expense of the disabled or elderly.

I'm referring to those supplements of $1200 / $600 that people on SSI / SSDI won't get, although workers will.

I know unemployment is a different set of rules altogether.

Was that from today ? We’ll have to read the bill, I think a lot of news sources are just going off what people say as Bill hasn’t been shown

It's from the link that Angnix provided. The article is dated 25 March.

From the draft of bill(likely what they voted on)

Quote:
Subtitle B – Rebates and Other Individual Provisions
Section 2201. 2020 recovery rebates for individuals
All U.S. residents with adjusted gross income up to $75,000 ($150,000 married), who are not a dependent of another taxpayer and have a work eligible social security number, are eligible for the full $1,200 ($2,400 married) rebate. In addition, they are eligible for an additional $500 per child. This is true even for those who have no income, as well as those whose income comes entirely from non-taxable means-tested benefit programs, such as SSI benefits.
For the vast majority of Americans, no action on their part will be required in order to receive a rebate check as IRS will use a taxpayer’s 2019 tax return if filed, or in the alternative their 2018 return. This includes many low-income individuals who file a tax return in order to take advantage of the refundable Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit. The rebate amount is reduced by $5 for each $100 that a taxpayer’s income exceeds the phase-out threshold. The amount is completely phased-out for single filers with incomes exceeding $99,000, $146,500 for head of household filers with one child, and $198,000 for joint filers with no children.

Though long term all this will cause social security to run out of funds earlier then the 2035 predicted :(

Does the federal government have an information website where you can check for info on what exactly is being done without having to go through press intermediaries or comb through bills in their pre-amend-and-vote form?

(If so it might take 48hrs or so for it to be fully up to date on the new measures though...)

So much for me getting unemployment

Quote:
Section 2104. Emergency Increase in Unemployment Compensation Benefits
This section provides an additional $600 per week payment to each recipient of unemployment insurance or Pandemic Unemployment Assistance for up to four months.

That would have me making close to $3,000 a month and cause me to be kicked off social security and lose my insurance. And then after the month I’d be back at work and lose unemployment and become homeless.

Just one week of that would be more then I make in a month.

You have to ask if the $600 would apply to part-time workers, too.
