He just has to learn to use Word....that would go a long way. And make sure he has a functional printer.

I'm sure somebody at the library could show him the basics.

If it's an in-class test, and he's studied enough, he could probably pass even while writing in pen.

So far, he hasn’t demonstrated a willingness to do stuff on his own behalf. He’d be completely on his own when it comes to doing schoolwork.

He might be able to get a Pell Grant (if he's not in debt to any college). That is a "gift," and not a loan.

It is probable that ASS-P can only attend a Community College. Very much a longshot to attend a "residential university."

I wish it were like when Fred Flintstone went back to college---the reality is different, though. Living in a dorm would probably be a sensory disaster for ASS-P----unless, of course, he's into the beer drinking and other shenanigans.

I feel like ASS-P can handle the academic work in, say, an Intro composition course. But he'll have to gain more discipline and initiative to handle higher-level courses.

But even the process of registering for classes and meeting with advisors requires a certain amount of paperwork, tact, and gumption.

I think it would be best to focus on other goals: housing, health, and getting stable. He could always attend educational lectures at his library or community center.

I agree with that....he should get a permanent home first. Definitely.

I don't think that can happen unless its a tent in the woods.

Which brings up an old question of mine--just what does he spend his money on? What, he cant save up for say and eye exam and a new pair of glasses? He has no rent and can get free food.

What does ASS-P want to study in college?

Psychology I think. I've seen posts where he says he wants to help the homeless as a councilor or some such. Actually that's not a bad idea.

I want to know this, too. I know his money is given to him weekly, but I’d imagine he needs more help managing it.

He really needs a social worker to help him out. There’s no reason why he can’t be living comfortably.

Having been through “the system,” I know what he needs to do, but so far, he’s been unwilling to do it.

It really isn’t that difficult. It would probably involve less effort than appealing for help on this forum.

I do believe he would benefit from listening to you, Twilight.

He spends his money on fast food and consumer items he really does not need, and then complains that he injured his back carrying all of them around in a camping backpack. The fast food makes his health issues worse too.

Yeah. That’s why I’m saying he needs to focus on housing and his health. Weight loss would drastically improve his health.

I’ve recently lost around 70 pounds, and I can’t believe how much better I feel.

Actually he's been living in a motel for a while now. The lowest price I saw for the Santa Cruz area was like 65$ a day - so that's around 2000$ per month - being covered by money from his late brother I believe. I think he called it estate money. But also indicated it will run out eventually if he continues staying in the "expensive motel" as he called it.

I don't know that he has ever said. It seems like he just wants a "college experience" that he feels he was denied. More like an experience he has read about and seen in movies I suppose. Sounds more like a romantic pipe dream type thing to me. Like this whole thing is like a make a wish type deal. The problem is he needs someone to step in and make it happen, just like the make a wish foundation would. I think that's basically what he has been fishing for - some benefactor to step in and arrange everything to make the dream come true. Very often reality doesn't live up to what people dream about wanting or doing. But until the wish/dream is fulfilled, it being fulfilled is all that matters to them. Getting into uni is all that matters.

Well if that's the case, that's a noble goal. I wish he displayed a counselor's type demeanor here instead of screaming and shaking his fist at people all the time. Based on that, he doesn't seem like the kind of person who would make a particularly good counselor.

...Ezra, you're sill endlessly tantruming about me not being sufficient worshipful : or perhaps I'm exaggerating - for the phony-information GED idea. Again, I won't talk about it any.ore, just say that it wasn't a good idea for me :x !
