Does anyone know if I can accept just one week every month for unemployment?
Or can I just nit accept the full benifit?
One week away from pay being gone I’m freaking out.

You apply for unemployment once a week, usually. That I know.

You’re not REQUIRED to apply for unemployment every week.

I’ve been seeing little blurbs in posts
About how ppl in the USA have to reapply for unemployment every week. So stupid. Doesn’t work like that here at all. Ppl apply once, there’s a one week holdback with no pay, then you fill out a report every two weeks and if you earn anything you report it and don’t get paid from insurance for that time/amount. Someone who’s working 3 weeks and off one would just report income for the 3 weeks and get paid for the off week. Rinse and repeat for as long as you qualify for - up to 9 months of being paid every week to a max of $573/week.

America seems to like to burden everything with very costly duplication of paperwork just to burn time and money for fun - but mostly to deny poor/non white people of healthcare and financial entitlements as much as possible.

You can claim unemployment for one week...but would be rendered ineligible should you fail to apply for the second week for at least a week, if not longer.

I agree. People rarely get a job within a week, anyway.

But I wonder if the unemployment folks would think you worked those weeks you didn’t claim.

Sly, act like you already have it and don’t want to give it to anyone else - especially your mom. Distancing, hand washing, don’t touch your face, mask up in public if you can and ignore anyone that has anything to say about it, disinfect every item and grocery item that enters your home, and after each venture out in public/work shift if you’re still working, as soon as you get in, strip your clothes off and wash them in hot water and soap right away (even hand wash and hang to dry) and shower up yourself to make sure there’s no germies on you or your clothes that could contaminate your home and make their way to your mom. Also social distance within the house, too. Don’t get too close to mom unless you have to, and if you have to make sure to scrub in like a surgeon, wear gloves/mask if you can etc and be super cautious - especially if she’s Very High Risk.

My parents are both 66. Dad has several health history issues that make him high risk. My mom is ocd about all the disinfecting protocols. No one else is in or out of the house rn. I’m at my aunts for another week, but when I go back I’ll be taking super precautions at home and whenever I’m out and when I return like I described above to make sure I don’t accidentally pick it up and spread it to my dad just the same as I know you don’t want to spread it to your mom.

There’s a great YouTube video my an MD from Michigan showing how to use hospital disinfecting procedures to clean groceries and take out food (and anything else) you bring into the home. Useful info for anyone, but especially for those of us protecting immunocompromised elders.
