Alex didn't remove any rules - he just clarified them. Bigotry, personal attacks and bullying aren't allowed. Unacceptable ideas can be attacked but the person expressing them should be treated with respect. Alex said racism and white supremacy are not allowed. But you're not a white supremacist or a racist so why do you feel unwelcome? You're better liked here than you imagine.

There really isn't anything inconsistent in what he wrote. He was trying his best to make them clear.

All he said is we must apply the rules fairly, and we will be focusing more attention on ensuring everyone feels at home here unless there's evidence to suggest they are criminals, terrorists, hackers, trolls, spammers, Neo-Nazis etc etc.

People on the left will also be called out if they infringe the site rules.

Sly, you just happen to be somewhere in the centre, perhaps even left of centre as you've stated yourself, and you support gun rights for defence and/or sporting purposes. There is nothing wrong with that.

Ezra probably better off not coming back. If the goal was to get people to come back it’s failed. Based on my understanding of af, if Alex went ther he’d be banned, they don’t allow such generalizations as that. Imagine if someone said all biden voters are racist communist.

Well I vote trump and I occasionally vote for republicans so I’m condemned.

Ironically by people who make up stuff about trump while ignoring or making excuses for stuff Biden’s said. I thought this site was a safe place for all aspies regardless of their believes or backgrounds, sad to see it’s not. I don’t see many people coming back after tonight, might see more good people leave though.

Hope is not lost Sly, I think we should give Alex the chance to process the deeper meanings and implications of his words and of the memberships words.

The reality is that the membership here is so diverse, that if only one small segment is protected in an echo chamber then the site is doomed.

You're one of us - a precious WP member. And I don't use the word precious lightly.

I may be wrong but I understood that it's not okay to directly call someone a white supremacist or racist, or any other negative, direct labeling. it should be permitted to discuss racism, even ask someone if they hold racist beliefs, but calling someone a white supremacist or racist is fundamentally different to calling someone a liberal or lefty, because of the emotional and historical stigma attached to racism. It is definitely a hurtful label to adhere to someone. Stick around, you may find that the moderators, with more manpower and less pressure, will be able to provide you with a blanket of protection that will promote a safer feeling for you, and the freedom to be yourself.

Even someone who is OPENLY a white supremacist should be welcome here. They should expect to be called what they are, but they ab-so-fucking-lutely have the right to be here. People should be entitled to identify racism and call it what it is, those two positions are not mutually exclusive. They're entitled to be here and I'm entitled to think they're a disappointing example of humanity.


As to Sly:

I've participated in this thread, not to bully you but because I didn't even f*****g know I was the one who called you a mangy dog because I damn well didn't and I suspect you know that. I used the idiom 'if you lay with dogs you'll get fleas'.

I won't demand an apology from you if your pain was sincere, but if it wasn't then I’m annoyed and I'd still like to be your friend because I have no friends just unlike you.

I prodded you and attempted to be comforting, but both were ignored, why not explain how you were hurt to me directly instead of dealing with it like this? Aren't I dumber than you?

I agree that everyone should be welcome here, but that does not, in my opinion, legitimately give other members a free pass to launch personal attacks on them for holding opposing views to their own. Attack the concept by all means but not the individual. This is the Haven, this is Sly's thread, I think posters here are trying to support him, no? Are you here for that purpose?

Considering that I'm 'the bully' in this context, yes, I'm entitled to attempt to make amends or at least clear the air and bring a degree of peace. I didn't even know I was the offender until today. How am I attacking?

Great that you asked Empire, it's always good to clarify.I was not directing at you, but just stating my opinion in general about differing political stances and how we should deal with them here. I think saying that Sly would be a " F....ing prick or if his pain wasn't sincere, could be worded in a more olive branch, less combative, conciliatory tone, otherwise how would it be productive in trying to bridge the differences you have and make amends? If someone said to me that I would be a f....ng prick if I wasn't sincere while offering an apology, I would tell them to go stick their head where the sun doesn't shine. Why? because it is a conditional. Apologies should never be conditional, that would not be an apology would it? That would be perpetuating the discord.

If you didnt say it then why is it being attributed to you funeralx?

This reminds me too much of another situation where we had one member wronhly accusing others of all sorts unchecked, when they were trying to help. I was one of those people, if you wanted to start a haven thread to discuss it, or even pm's I would reply.

I'm offering an ambiguous and conditional apology because it depends on details that I don't know and that Sly does know, but rather than insist he's gaslighting us I'd prefer to allow him to save face and not sow further discord.
