Somehow that reminds me of the quote, "Trust those who seek the truth; doubt those who find it."

Life is about the journey, not the destination... :)

I haven't heard that quote before, but I have that idea in my head too. Though more often than not it gets me called paranoid U^_^ This one sounds way cooler.

One of my favorite quotes goes something like "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting their own battle."

in my schizoid aspie mind, there is a self-preservative meme fighting another self-preservative meme-

"it is better to keep silent and as a fool be thought about, than to open one's mouth and thus remove all doubt."
versus-

"one should make one's words soft and sweet, in case one has to eat them later."

when i practice the 2nd one, i still frequently end up on the wrong side of the first one.

^^^ I've found as I've gotten old I've shifted... as a kid I practiced the 2nd fervently and tried desperately to avoid the first and as an ever evolving adult I practice the first, perhaps too much and have lost faith in the 2nd.

Basically, it is better to shut up. I suppose I've chosen which battle to fight. Or, in this case, to have retreated from the battlefield altogether.

I'm not really sure what to say today here in this thread though, atleast I'm making some progress small but, it's there in terms of learning that I'm not as stupid as some people had originally thought of me..

Hey ProfX and auntblabby - I unwittingly just stuck my foot in it on another thread... stay tuned.

EDIT: Nevermind - resolved without bloodshed. Carry on...

Feeling particularly "misfitty" of late. Many times I've felt a misfit even within a crowd of misfits (perhaps we need a club for misfits of the misfits... :) ). I don't know what it is now though, because in the past I was always very lonely, so there was hardly anybody I interacted with anyway, but now it is less so.

I'm less lonely now than I was before, but it's not because of increased company or friends - I just got better at being alone.

Not much for me to say here in this thread as, I don't like to intrude upon others so, hoping others are able to find serenity.

Serenity... a great ship on a great show!

Sorry I'm MIA folks. Started new meds and I'm pretty much a zombie. I'm hoping it's fleeting but, if I'm not mistaken, this one has the tendancy to rob me of my brain. It was a long time ago so we'll give it another try.

Happiness is a thermometer over the 69 degree mark! :) I can FINALLY strip down to one layer of clothing! I've been bundled up since last October and I'll tell you, it sucks. Badly. I might attempt some very light yard work - hopefully I won't pass out in the daffodils. Not that I'd mind. I have a few highly fragrant varieties popping up now.

Zombie apocolypse - I've been thinking into this lately or, rather just the theory of an apocolypse - a sudden and catastrophic failure of the modern world as we know it. There was another disaster scenario show on Discovery or some such about a flu pandemic wiping out a massive chunk of the population. Much of our infrastructure that we take for granted is in a sad state. it would take so little for the whole house of cards to come tumbling down. Do you know where to get water if the public system stops pumping and the stores are long empty? I have a few basic survival skills at my disposal thanks to my interest in the subject - I'm not a crazy-hide-in-the-woods survivalist - but I'd rather be safe than sorry. It's empowering in a many ways, to have so many skills that others simply laugh away... until they need them. Can't tell you how many people have come to rely on my laughable herablism skills during poison ivy season. I can clear it up faster than anything over the counter.

So, any thoughts on the end of modern society as we know it or on survival skills?

having to give up modern comforts would suck, though a competently artful practitioner of the backworld arts such as yourself could take a lot of the sting out of it. me, when the balloon goes up, will probably just succumb to the zombies, but not before i swallow poison and have them succumb to me and my poisoned flesh. call me a defeatist, but it is all just a rigged game inside of which we are all stuck.

If society could just implode...that'd be great. I mean, a lot of people would suffer and die so I feel terrible for thinking it but...heck, it would simplify living by a whole lot - get food, get shelter, don't get sick, don't eat other people, etc. No more "be a normal college student", "make friends", "get grandkids for your parents" <_< Existing would be easier for me if things were to be that straightforward and defined. Then again, I'm not nearly as tough as I'm building my Dragon Age: Origins character to be, and should society implode, Bioware would stop making great games and yes, I am so very materialistic XD

If I had any of draelynn's survival skills, I'd go off and be a hermit, coming out only to forage for books at the nearest bookstore, if they haven't all burned down already.

Book foraging would be a great perk in case of societal meltdown. I tend to lose things, forget things plus I read constantly so I acquire ridiculous library fines! :)

That is your primary source for all that information you need to know after the infrastructure goes down. Maps, how to manuals, first aid, wild foods, survival skills... and sheer entertainment. All will be invaluable and most of your other 'Mad Max' style deperado/gang banger types wouldn't be caught dead in there.

Another handy dandy thing to either find or learn how to make is solar cells. If you can generate enough solar power to keep small handhelds - like gps, laptops, digital cameras hell even your ds - you'll be in great shape. Raid any electronics store and snag all the thumbdrives you can carry and take photorecords of important printed material and save. You will not be able to carry an entire library with you but the knowledge will be invaluable.

BTW - I am currently recruiting a solar cell/ do-it-yourself Green Energy wizard for my ZA team. Taking applications thru December 2012.

Also - it has been suggested in THIS THREAD that in the case of a zombie apocolypse - or any 'the end of life as we generally know it' catastrophe, that we shall all share our survivor knowledge via shortwave radio - the frequency, Kenneth: 66.6.
