Good one, albeit sad.

because otherwise good people didn't vote in time.

Oh, it was overdetermined, as the psych guys say. Multiple variables. People not voting, people voting for third party candidates, people casting write-in votes for Mickey Mouse, many people being fooled, others voting their base impulses, and so on and so on and scoobie doobie doobie.

Interesting that voting has never been mandatory here, nor has Election Day ever been a holiday, thus allowing employers to disenfranchise their staffs merely by overloading them with work or setting their hours such that they can't get to the polls. (I've voted by absentee ballot before, to circumvent exactly this, but the rules about when you can do it are often very strict, and not everyone knows about that or gets it underway in time.)

Thanks for the GIFs and cartoon, Esme; a good giggle is just what I needed before crawling off to bed.

And in the spirit of sharing some fun things, here's a Buttersafe cartoon from a few days ago that caught my eye...

:-) if you click on the link, there's a GIF that's actual Dark Age Science Fiction - a kitty with a jet-pack. So help me!

The animator is remarkably talented and has a lovely sense of whimsy :-)

[Edit in: Trog, that Buttersafe cartoon is too true to be funny, almost. Honestly I do not. know. how. I managed to hold down a full time job for over three decades, because far too often that's how I felt.]

Wonderful, aren't they? Elizabeth I fanning Shakespeare was fairly amusing too.

^^ oh, perfect segue: "and now for something completely different!" I posted this in the puppy/kitty pics thread too, and hope I'll be forgiven for also sharing it here, since not everyone goes there, and this is really remarkable, when you look at the detail and the use of light.

It's Bastet, of course, with one of her sacred cats, and yes they are both wearing earrings (check some of the actual statuary and tomb paintings) and yes, the kitty has claws of gold. But look at the detail of her hair and the cat's fur and nose leather. This just gobsmacked me (I was looking for something else entirely).

And I'm here and gone again - up too late last night, slept in, it's sunny (yesterday was blustery) and the garden is calling, whether I will or no.

I've got some more music to share! One kind of sad song [with Vietnamese subtitles, for some reason], and a nice, gentle song.

[clips from the short film The Forest of Fireflies, combined with Maiko Fujita's single Firefly]

[Rakuen, from the anime Wolf's Rain]

Hey, Esme. I've been looking at a couple Discworld fanfiction pieces I found. Would you like to have a look?
