In India or Kenya, yes.

But this shouldn't* apply to the United States. They’re the wealthiest country in he history of the world. They have an abundance of shelter and food. All they have to do to beat this thing is stay home for a while and sustain themselves on basic food staples.

*But it will because distribution of resources is so imbalanced & income inequality so high that much of the USA’s population may as well be Indian or Kenyan right now in terms of their ability to shelter in place, distance themselves from others, and feed themselves for a couple of months. Very sad situation.

If you live in Multinomah County, they can't evict you because they froze evictions.

O they changed their mind hours later.
I dont know who to call or ask for help with sorting this unemployment while on disability thing, google is useless since very few people get disability and work part time jobs I guess.

I believe you, Sly.

But what’s stopping you from applying online?

Is it because they don’t count SSI as income?

“Eligibility require you be available to work full time substantial work”

Being on disability means I can’t work full time or substantial work.

So I’d have to lie and that lie might get back to social security who then would be like he told us he can’t work substantial work.

Try 1-866-487-2365.

Tell them your situation. The whole truth. See what they say.

Sly, I know you like being prepared with tools, flashlights, tactical things etc but what about food supply?

Do you have the ability to plant and grow any food at home? Even if in a flower pot or empty ice cream bucket.

If I had serious income uncertainty right now I’d be planning and planting whatever I could ASAP so that in a matter of weeks or a month or two there’s some almost free food sprouting up. Potatoes, onions, carrots etc. Very easy to grow and would help offset grocery costs.

Once I move back home in a few days I might do some of this myself just to minimize grocery shopping trips or even movement inside grocery stores. Not sure if I’ll be able to plant things as I don’t own the house, but if others are okay with it I’ll till up some of the small back lawn and plant a bit of a garden for the first time.

Potatoes would probably be my #1 recommendation. Super easy to grow and they’ll sustain life for a while. Hell, pretty much the entire Irish population has survived on them for generations - except for that one potato famine time.

I have virtually zero psychological resilience. My anxiety has always been the bane of my existence, ever since I was a kid. I remember having my first anxiety attacks in the summer when I was around 12 years old. I would go without breathing and then suddenly become aware and feel very disconnected to reality. I had no idea what was happening to me and I honestly believed I was dying, but too scared to tell anyone. I had sleep apnea and thought I would stop breathing in my sleep and never wake up. Now I just wish I could go to sleep and never wake up.

The shortness of breath symptom of covid-19 really frightens me. I know what it's like to have sudden panic attacks where you forget to breathe and then it's like you can't get enough air into your lungs, even though they're aching and it feels like they're going to explode.

I can't go out and buy groceries or anything else anymore. There are just too many restrictions. It was stressful enough going out for groceries before this whole nightmare began. But being stuck inside all the time is nightmare for me as well and something I've always been fearful of. Is it possible to have both claustrophobia and agoraphobia?

Yes of course.. Do u like walks in nature (relatively more natural anyway.. Less people.
Hiking trails, paths by a creek or pond, etc?)

If you have access to a place like that (which wd be lucky) maybe drive there and get out fr a walk!

I have a bombardment of agoraphobic thoughts every day for years now...

I know that sometimes a bit of encouragement helps them quiet down a bit.. Enough to give you the strength to venture out...

Really well explained post btw.. It's the type of writing I aspire to (structured and informative no unnecessary side thoughts)

I'm concerned that either my mum or I will end up with the virus. We both have health issues that compromise out immune systems.

Don’t go out unless absolutely necessary. There are several different grocery delivery services locally.

Also, there’s a huge Facebook group called Covid-19 coming together Vancouver where people are posting Needs/Offers. Some are silly IMO asking for money to pay cable tv bills. But many are legitimate requests for help with groceries or errands. People post and say they need someone to grocery shop and deliver for them because they are immunocompromised, and local volunteers respond and help out. That group could be a great lifeline for you and your mom.

And I agree with the post above: nature walks in solitude are very grounding. I’ve taken several the last few weeks. There are very few people outside and I avoid touching anything. My walks have been urban, but there are a lot of trees, parks, and wooded areas around here. A couple days ago I spent quite a while walking around a very large and seemingly affluent graveyard. It was very peaceful.
