I understand the tendency to make up your mind immediately that you want to be close to someone/not close to someone, but I think most people are not this way. That's probably why your repeated attempts to facebook friend are having poor results - you know you want to be closer friends with her (or more), but she's still uncertain. To you it seems like mixed messages because you probably aren't in the habit of being friendly to people you may not actually want to be close with, but a lot of people do do that. Just back off of the facebook part of things at least for a while, and she'll get curious as to why you've stopped and probably be more open with you. I know, it seems like playing games, but that's just how many people operate. If you don't like it or can't deal with it then you're probably better off trying to find another girl.
Also, I want to say that I myself swore that if I did not have a kiss by age 22, I would kill myself, and that if I had not had a relationship by age 25, I would kill myself. I missed both deadlines, honestly. First kiss at 23 and first boyfriend-like-guy at 26. It caused me a great deal of pain throughout university and beyond, particularly because it seemed so ridiculously easy for other people and yet none of them seemed to appreciate what they had. I was convinced that I would die alone (and hell, I still may, as I think we tend to forget that most relationships don't last forever). I am glad, however, that I did not follow through with my promise to myself, because ultimately I had many experiences I wouldn't trade for the world (and not all related with relationships). I believed my situation couldn't possibly get better, but it did.
(Also, just an aside, I recommend trying NOT to unfriend people on the spur of the moment. I used to do that, and I always regretted it. Plus it makes you look like a crazy drama queen when you unfriend then immediately ask to be friends again)
