Thanks, Tequila and Blooheart.

Tequila, I think you might have misunderstood. The helpful man wasn't winding me up - he was directing me to the right place. The organisers had been meeting in a new place for months, but hadn't updated their website. Other than that, you were spot on. I don't drink ale, by the way. I'm practically tee-total. If ordering a drink (which happens about 4.78 times in the average year) I'll go for something sweet and gulpable. Like Malibu. I don't like those bitter drinks, like beer or champagne. To me, they taste of burp.

Do you drink Tequila, or is your username about something else?

No, I think you misunderstood. I fully recognised that the fella was helping you out and he seems like a good man. I was pointing out that not everyone is out to get you - there are some nice people too, like the chap with the fag. :)

Good stuff.

Did they have a link to their website on the page you had got the details from? That way you could have checked it.

So I was spot on. ;)

Fair enough, but you are missing a lot. :)

I do. I don't drink as much real ale as I used to but I managed to exhaust the beer selections of practically all the supermarkets locally, if you avoid the lager sections. A look at my photostream would confirm my interest in pubs and beer, as much as pubs are going down the tubes these days and are descending into petty authoritarianism and thuggishness.

A Baileys at Christmas? ;)

(If you don't get the reference, that's OK.)

Or an RTD, perhaps? Like Bacardi Breezer/WKD et al? That's what people who don't like the taste of alcohol generally drink. Though there are some extremely good fruit beers that are made in Continental Europe.

Like Malibu.

That's a rum-based confection, right? Yuck.

My favourite beers are those intensely hoppy, bitter, bright, citrusy and strong IPA style beers (I'm on about true IPAs here, not the weak, malty, sweetish brown affairs that are branded 'IPA'). It's almost like tasting a hop but hopefully with a slightly more balanced flavour than that. Durham's Magic IPA or BrewDog's Punk IPA does it for me.

They also smell of farts too, the next morning. That's the problem with real ale - the gas you pass afterwards. :)

I don't like champagne (or Cava, or wine most of the time). No, pass me a good Islay malt (like the intensely smoky and medicinal-tasting Laphroaig or Ardbeg, probably the two most intense and obnoxious single malts around) and I'm happy.

My username refers to the character Inspector 'Tequila' Yuen out of John Woo's ultra-actioner Hard-Boiled. I think that movie set the record for a long time for the highest body count in a movie. The last 30 minutes is literally wall-to-wall action and shooting sequences, lovingly choreographed. :)

Oh. Sorry.

I checked numerous websites. They were listed all over the place on external links as well as their own website. They all said the same date and time.

That's a matter of personal opinion.

I don't. But I quite like Bailey's, except it has cream in it or something, and makes me a bit ill. I'm lactose intolerant.

I am not "people." I am unique. No, I do not like alcopops. I only like Malibu. Or sangría (a red wine cocktail).

Yum.

Oh dear. I hate shooting. But I loved the Matrix. Is that weird?

Back on topic, there has been an unexpected development. I am being introduced to a friend of a friend who has Aspergers. Of course, having Aspergers is no guarantee that we'll have anything remotely in common (as Tequila and I have found) but from the little I've been told about them, it seems we have quite a lot in common.

Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!

*all_white celebrates prematurely, just like she did before going to the Aspie meeting that turned out to be so crap*

Hollow laugh...

Shame you dont live in Dublin. They have a great AS group there. And noone gets lost, there is the same designated meeting place before they go on to the destination place.

Somebody mentioned an Aspie meet up group. I don't know if Meetup.com is an international site, but I've seen Aspie and Autie meetups, for adults, kids, families, everything.

For the record, that kind of thing happens to me a lot - or maybe it's the right place, but everyone else is an hour late, so I'm still the only one there. I hate going out with people because of this. It stresses me out.

Wow... is there a chance they stood you up on purpose? How did the people in the pub act? and tell us more about what it was like in the second hotel, including your conversation. :)

If you want to, of course. :)

No, they didn't stand me up on purpose. They had just neglected to update all their literature and websites with details of their new venue.

I think I already went into sufficient detail. The people in the pub either ignored me or stared at me in open curiosity. I felt like crap.

Why do you want to know?

You're an awesome person all_white! You have more courage than me, because I'd be scared to death to meet with people I never knew, in a place that was new to me. Going to bars is hard for me to do.

Aww, thanks, Emuman! :) You're an awesome person, too. I wish I could have taken you with me, so as not to feel so alone.

I also hate going to bars. The whole concept of "let's go to this venue selling poison, and pay money to pour some down our throats" is totally bizarre. I tend to feel either irritated or intimidated by the sort of people who frequent those sorts of places.

The Autism NZ Xmas barbeque met at a large park. The directions were fairly clear but not 100%. I was lost with 2 others aspies and their 2 kids. We rang and text the aspie organiser who for some reason COULD NOT EXPLAIN TO US WHERE IN THE PARK THEY WERE

Even after 3 calls and 4 texts. We told him where we were and they came and got us.

It was so frustrating, and the kids were getting hungry.

I was so annoyed, I left the park, and I never saw any of them ever again
