Is suicide a lesser sin than murder?

If life is so hard for you that you just can't deal with it anymore and you do kill yourself then that should not be a sin. Yes, you hurt people around you but if life is really that bad, why go on with it. I have met people who hate life and would rather be dead today than tomorrow. I even met people that cut themselfs often. It's really sad to see people in such pain. Some people are just not made for this world. Some people are just to sensitive to deal with life's challenges and I can only respect their decision to just end it. People normaly look at me like I am crazy for saying this. I just feel like if you just want to die then why is it a sin?

I am an atheïst and think religion is a way to control groups and brainwash you. Religion has it's good things like being in a community but other than that... Almost all wars are about religion. That's so sad...

If you do not believe in religion you could replace the word 'sin' with the word 'wrong.' I don't think the question was intended to be religious.

Okay, just gave my opinion on the matter.

The Indian religion Jainism doesn't look at suicide as being bad at all. In fact it's honorable. I forgot the word for it, but it goes like this. If a person sits motionless and naked in one position and dies from starvation, that is an honorable thing.

I think the samurai code of conduct also looks at suicide (seppuku) as an honorable thing. I guess it all depends on your religion or personal viewpoint.

Really, so if someone offs them-self because they are in misery, see no way out and just cannot cope anymore....then they have done something just as bad as murdering another person?

Then again I do not belive in sin so not sure if niether being more of a sin than the other, implies both actions are just as 'bad'. Either way having attempted suicide in the past, I certainly think attempting murder would have been the more 'morally' wrong action.
