You are putting way too much pressure on yourself. You don't seem to understand that luck plays a huge role in anyone's success, especially in the arts. Keep making films, do what you like to do, but don't assume your latest project is "the one" that's going to get you discovered. See this for what it is. It's a hobby that has a miniscule chance of becoming something more than that, no matter how great you are. Learn from each experience and focus on continuously improving your films so if a bit of luck ever does come your way you'll have a better chance of actually getting somewhere. And my goodness, don't destroy your work! That's the dumbest thing you could ever do. Well, second dumbest. The dumbest thing would be to kill yourself.

Your piece has a somewhat melancholy tone to it and the others tended to be very upbeat. There is nothing wrong with the piece you did, but it simply might not be the kind of tone a rail road company wants to put forth. You may be rejected, not because what you did was bad but simply because it wasn't what the client was looking for.

There is much to praise in your animation. The camera move is certainly not easy to do in stop motion animation and you made it work well. While the melancholy tone may not have worked for the judges, it is internally consistent with the brief story that you show. It's not perfect, but it's well done for what it is.

I recommend doing another film that better fits your personality. You probably aren't going to be the guy who does exuberantly happy films, but there is room for films with a darker tone. The audience may be smaller, but it does exist. The fact that few people can see the world the way you do does not make your view of the world invalid. The work of finding your audience may be hard, but if it were easy, everyone would do it.

I am sorry that you weren't picked. I am an artist as well and all I know is failure. I have been in contests and never ever won one, or even gotten ANY awards. I fakely won one that wasn't real so this one obviously doesn't count. That is when I was the only entry. It is because I live in the middle of nowhere far away from human civilization. Your stuff is more useful than mine. Mine are just simple animal art done with colored pencils. Mine looks like a kid did them.. oh wait! Mine are worse! In fact I have shut down places because of how bad my art was (yes believe it or not this is actually true no matter how weird this sounds). And that is literally the only talent I have. Don't kill yourself over not being picked. You are more successful than I am. I have also been kicked out of places because of how bad my art was selling. I highly, highly doubt that you have shut down places or been kicked out of others.

You know - since all entries probably become UP property, I hope they use yours in a training video somewhere... yours still has more artistic merit than other entries and I keep coming back to it to watch again.

i have similar problems but im just 19. i understand that there is much room for possibility for things to change. but the possibility that my existence will not matter haunts me.
i decided that if i don't become anything special than ill adopt a child.
hopefully the thought of giving someone ells a good chance to exist and find meaning will give me peace is my possibly unworthy existence.
idk. i find the whole self sacrifice thing poetic.

I wont lie to you about the best because to be honest id kill myself this instant if i could. But i will say that pills is one of the worst ways to die. For starters the pills dont kill you, you die from your kidneys not working anymore. Which can take days. So youll pretty much spend days in agony and throwing your guts out and thats even if you dont get hospitalized and have to deal with that embarrasment.

<--- Swallowed 47 sleeping pills and all he got was two lousy months in a psych hospital. That, and a book of fairy tales, he wrote while there.

^^^^

If anything, it seemed to me that your film was too heartfelt, bittersweet and sincere for that venue - they wanted an ad and you gave them art. The people who want slick, upbeat and shallow are the flawed ones, if you ask me. Yours had some subtlety to it and depth. I mean, there were some nice -ads- among the finalists, but if I were going to pick a filmmaker whose work I'd most like to see more of, it would be yours. You wanted to make something true and beautiful, and you did, but that's not what they were looking for. There are people who appreciate that sort of thing, though, so just continue to perfect your art and present it as just that, art.

If you have more of your work posted anywhere, or a blog, I'd love to follow it.

http://up150.com/gbrr/video/130 Is totally lame.

Your's is awesome, though. I gotta say. And hey, at least your film is existing on a major company's website, that's a feat in itself.

No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.

And this is what companies must keep in mind.

But you had a really great moving video, though. Wow.

...and it's already guaranteed a $5000 prize for being in the top three. That REALLY sucks.
