you might consider ordering a TENS unit online someplace. i got mine for my elbow which was shattered last august in a bike collision with a deer. it was a lifesaver. i got mine from http://www.tenspros.com/

they were the least expensive. when you get a TENS unit the important thing is that it have adjustable frequency of pulses, adjustable pulse width as well as adjustable amplitude. everything else is gravy. the ones they sell there will do what you need them to do.

btw i'm gratified that you appreciate my gift :)

Well, thank God for that. From here, things can only get better than where you've been the last few months. Keep us posted on your progress!

It is not too high-tech...

I've been in the hospital since last monday--two actually. They had to transfer me to another hospital about 2hrs from home for the surgery.

Both hospitals have free wifi, plus I have tethering on my phone. So, either way I can get access,

I just brought my little netbook with me so I could post and keep up with my school work as best I can...

After a full body MRI (they had to put me under) they found severe stenosis from T8 to T11 and another really bad spot at c1... This is in addition to all the bad stuff they found in my lumbar spine and hips (I'm a train wreck!)....

Anyway, they did a laminectomy on t8 to t11 this time and put in a bunch of rods and screws. :(

The doc says the stenosis at c1 will need surgery very soon as well... So I'll be doing this again in a few months.... :?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laminectomy

Quote:
Most commonly, laminectomy is performed to treat spinal stenosis. Spinal stenosis is the single most common diagnosis leading to any type of spine surgery and laminectomy is a basic part of its surgical treatment. The lamina of the vertebra is removed or trimmed to widen the spinal canal and create more space for the spinal nerves and thecal sac. Surgical treatment that includes laminectomy is the most effective remedy for severe spinal stenosis; however, most cases of spinal stenosis are not severe enough to require surgery. When the disabling symptoms of spinal stenosis are primarily neurogenic claudication and the laminectomy is done without spinal fusion, there is generally a very rapid recovery with excellent long term relief. But if the spinal column is unstable and fusion is required, there is a recovery period of months to more than a year, and relief of symptoms is less likely.[2]

So they're turning you bionic in order to strengthen your spine due to the stenosis?

You'll have to take care at airports in future; you won't get past the scanners! :)

Glad the procedure is not too disruptive and wish you a speedy recovery.

i am glad that you are partially relieved from your expectation of death, but life is still not fair to all it's inhabitants.
there is no one to ultimately complain to really. things just happen. like a peaceful mountain is leveled by landslides not in its control, so is all that is good and bad alike washed away by the tide of time.
it is better to die when one is tired of life and yearns for eternal sleep than to have one's hopes stolen from them by fate.

hopefully you make a full recovery and you do not have a systemic causation that will make another similar attack on you before you are done with your love of life.

Yeah.... The insurance people are driving me crazy!! !!

I have the best plan you can buy via my university, but when the hospitals check, the insurance company keeps telling them that I don't have coverage--just some student discount plan!! !

I was so upset dealing with this stuff just before they transferred me that they had to recheck my vitals about three times before they got my blood pressure low enough to release me.

I finally got the lady who is handling my discharge to rehab to "confirm that I have coverage" and get me a specific name/number at the insurance company.

I'm going to file a complaint Student services at school too. It is ridiculous to be causing people so much unnecessary aggravation, whether through incompetence or by design....

They have snowed me under with all these petty little requests for "further information" and threats to deny payment in an effort to make the claims process so hard and drawn-out...

God, do I hate insurance companies.
:x

well, the voting majority of your countrymen seem to absolutely LOVE insurance companies. i even saw a tea partier with a sign which said she loved her insurance company. they must all be richfolk with gold-plated cadillac plans.

Well said auntblabby! I think they make people more sick with stress than the actual complaint / illness does! Aren't they supposed to be providing a "service" for which they charge exorbitant monthly premiums?
