I do think that most people who claim to be able to do exorcisms are probably con artists. But the people who actually believe in that sh*t and think they are legitimately ridding you of demons have the potential to do a good deal of harm. People die all the time in those rituals (and yes, Emily Rose was based on a true story). I have very negative feelings towards exorcisms for that reason.

I suppose that if you can't move away from your mother, you can claim to have "prayed about" your sexuality and become straight again. This would obviously be a lie, but it would be designed to maintain your personal safety while continuing to live with her. I used to lie to my mom like that all the time (not about sexual orientation, but other similar stuff), until I was able to move away from her.

Maybe you could lie and say you're just dating guys (don't, and say you did, if need be) so life will be reasonably livable up until you can leave.

If you can hold out until the fall, that would be a good decision. If you can't, and you have somewhere you can go, then by all means, go. Get emancipated. Get the hell out. Stop letting your "family" make you miserable.

I take it you plan on staying in a dorm room or off-campus somewhere, specifically not in your parents' house? If that's the case, that will help. Being so close, you won't be entirely free from them, but it will be better than your current situation. Hopefully you won't have your mother demanding you come home on weekends, and even if she does, hopefully you will be able to flat out tell her no without any real consequence.

It isn't easy to deal with people using religion as the basis for their arguments. In their minds, they truly believe they're doing the right thing for you and trying to help you. (In reality this couldn't be farther from the truth, but, well, no way to get that point across I'm afraid.) At one point you mentioned she seemed to be acting to protect her notion of how others see her. If that is the case, college could help a lot. As bad as it is, out of sight, out of mind, but with the way she sounds, that might not be such a bad thing.

This is completely OT, but if anyone is wondering about influences in Jack Black's career, I present this to be one of them. I can't see how it wouldn't be one of them, regardless of what he may say on the issue. Check it out on Youtube(link), amazing stuff.

That kind of rigid thinking - inspired by religious beliefs - is illogical and black/white to say the least. You need to keep in mind that inflexible thinking like that is very destructive and I would advise just to stop talking about your sexuality with your mother. If she persists with this exorcism, I would talk to your guidance counselor at school and ask for someone outside your family to intervene.

You may have to end the relationship with your family when you are in the position to do so. In the meantime, just keep your cool and remember that your mother has a serious problem with rigid thinking and tailor your speech and behavior towards not setting her off until you can make other living arrangements.

Good luck!

Shes bluffing, oh how moms try to scare their kids with outrageous claims. My mom always tells me she's gonna stop doing my laundry If i dont put it away when its folded.

Dont worry, sure she's being ignorant and delirious, and can I say a bit funny :P , she wouldnt call a priest and actually have it done.

My wife ran away from home at 16. She lived in a variety of situations,
from group homes (which she hated, but needed the temporary housing)
of teens, to living with friends. The only real question is how this will all
effect your plans for school, if you leave. But, if you're relying on your
mother to put you through school, my guess is she's going to use that
to enforce her will on you anyhow.

my ex boy friend's mom chucked him out of home when he was 14 for being gay.
she is a real b***h but luckily my mom let him stay with me cus she knew him and he was my friend from 7 yrs old. luckily my mom isn't bothered about my sexuality and frankly my nan doesn't care either despite being very religious.
stay with a friend till your mom gives up her stupid ideas about the whole "gay" thing
my ex bfs mom came round to the idea in the end took her 2 years but she is ok with him now.
if your mom decides to go through with it im sure it will back fire on her
i hate homophobia and getting it at home is worst of all
good luck mate i dont like it when people suffer and definitely not for something they have no control over that includes sexuality xxx

I think you should get out of there, as soon as possible. Get yourself a part-time job, so you can start to save up for a cheap appartment. You should also check to see if there are any subsidised appartments and housing in your area. You shouldn't have to deal with that nonsense.

You need to talk to someone outside of that situation if you don't feel strong enough to stand up to your mother. No-one should be made to feel ashamed of their sexual preferences.

At some point you will feel strong enough to not need your parent's approval hopefully...one thing I have found out in life is that parents are human beings and have just as many faults as we do...they just rarely ever admit to them.

Well, he was pretty liberal. So I guess if you're Ann Coulter, that counts as being a fag.
