Yeah, that's dedication. And very few ever manage that after such a post count.
But a little spam and s***posting never hurt anybody.
A mental vacation if you will.

For me, the benefit of this site is the contact I have with other older, late-diagnosed adults and their unique issues and perspectives. I do not know where else I could find that. Fnord's loss will be felt.

Lol, the last half page or so is probably making him noxious...

Fnord is a complex person, it seems to me. I don't know him in "real life," so I can't really evaluate him as a person.

But he's certainly a knowledgeable person, yet probably somewhat of a weary person.

He's certainly a "character" within WP. And he adds "character" at times.

If he does leave, I hope all goes well with his life.

Just for the record, when I 'retired' the first time, I had zero plans on ever coming back. I came back in a bit of frustration after a group of 'friends' completely betrayed me. Again but this site went downhill in the months I was gone.

Me too. I can't say I will never post here again but my head is bruised from banging it on the wall in the L&D section. It just amazes me how poor many people here are at listening to advice from those who have experience.

I personally tried ignoring all the irrelevant threads until I realized I had nothing further to say and when I tried posting new topics to stimulate discussion, they were all pretty much ignored. Too bad: I would love to see this site return to its former glory as it got me through a very rough time in my life.

Instead of bashing the site, do something about it? Change doesn't just instantly happen, and it certainly doesn't happen by saying things like you just did. I do realize change is hard to do if its one person, however just sitting back and saying "oh it used to be good", "oh I don't like these topics" (and so on) wont do much except make others upset.

I will never understand human nature well. People always need to complain about something. Complaining for the sake of complaining rarely does anything good. It reminds me of times when people complain about a book they've never read or a movie they've never seen. Easy to pass judgement on something you havent actually experienced (just reading plot details doesnt do all things justice).

ANYWAY... I do realize this is the haven, but I don't think that justifies this topic or others just bashing the site because they don't like it..

I think "bashing the site" is a mischaracterization. Did you read the entire thread? Not that you are required to, but Fnord has given a very long time to participation here, and is finding diminishing returns. I think his perspective is valid, which is not to say I want him to leave or I am planning to leave or the site is crummy.

I've done the same thing from boredom and from being pissed off. I've found the best thing to do is to just come and go. Read and post when you're interested and when you're not, don't bother with it. I go a while without thinking about WP but sometimes I feel like coming over and checking it out. in other words don't make a commitment either way, just come by when and if you feel like it. After all, it's just entertainment and something to do when you don't have anything important to do, so treat it like anything else in that category. Like if you're an NCIS fan and you get bored with the show you can skip it a few weeks and watch something else and give it a try again if nothing else is on or you decide to check in and see what's going on again.

I think I would disagree this site is "just entertainment" - if that's what it meant to me, I'd leave quickly, I can do better!

Good to see you, I've been wondering what you were up to.

The internet in general is just entertainment for me unless I'm looking something up or doing something like paying a bill or ordering something. It's like watching tv or reading a book or calling a friend to chat about nothing in particular. It's just something to do in leisure time, with no purpose for me other than to be entertained, although on a forum where you interact with others it's contributing to a dialogue etc, but for me it's no more than stopping to chat with someone while at the store, or watching tv or reading a book. It's an activity for downtime and not really something that accomplishes any type of goal or any achievement for me really. It doesn't impact my life once I put the kindle down, in other words.

wp is entertainment for me, having a forum open is like habinv a baseball game on, while i am doing something else on my computer, i dont seek support here, i try to give encouragement to people who are actively trying to improve their lives, post some info if there is discussion about a topic i know slmething about, thats about it for me

This is true for me as well. Well, less so "the contact" and more so the perspectives and experiences.

Fnord - I will definitely miss your posts.

To me, it sounds like a lot of problems would be solved by actively encouraging necroposting, rather than making it anathema. Much better than endlessly making new threads to discuss the same issues over and over again, each time forgetting everything said before.
