It was quite unprofessional for her to say that. It could be construed as encouraging suicide.

She didn't say that. It was my conclusion in trying to figure out why she had called the police. What did I say that made her think I was suicidal? I think she can only draw conclusions based on her own experience.

oh my. u are so charitable, claradoon. i'd really trashed them for it, after all the trouble. (and i had, in simmilar situations. when i was "asked" to leave a positive note about well, just lets say place and people that hurt me bad).
its not like i "wont believe it". just the amount of stupidity i am seing way too often. but it still is annoying every time. please hold on and dont let them imbeciles get to u, ok? they just really have their brain in a can, if they ask questions like that. sorry if i am rude, i am pissed off at them for u (and sorry if that is unwelcome).

A man from the Suicide Line phoned to ask if I am satisfied with their service!
That's a government line, btw.
He wanted to ask (he said to a living me on the phone) whether I had committed suicide.
Also what was my opinion of the Listener.
I terminated the call.

Of course it was a government line. Only someone from the government would ask a living person if they had died from suicide. Reminds me of Mr Kimball from Green Acres.

I would have just laughed, Claradoon.

You have to pick your battles.

I would have been tempted to say yes, yes I did commit suicide, but you would probably get cut off from any pension you get.

Although it is only available to young people aged up to 24, we have a very successful suicide and counselling service in NZ where users can choose between text, phone or email to get some support. A lot of young users choose text. The supporters are trained and supported by professional clinical staff who supervise them. Its results have been well studied and validated for several years now.

So why is it so hard for adult services to address the lack of user-friendly suicide prevention service delivery?

The enforced mode of "telephone only" is a very significant barrier for the AS community. Giving people choices gives distressed people some power back immediately to make decisions for themselves.

Changing service delivery options can and does work.

Oh, dear God.

Well, at least we all got a chuckle out of it!
