Kicking the bucket refers to the reflexive action of a hanged man before he dies. He kicked a bucket that was placed underneath him.

As for the movie, never saw and never will. The preview was creepy enough.

Yes, I know what kicking the bucket means.

As far as the term bucket list, did you ever say bucket list before the movie came out? I think the term bucket list was invented for that film.

Not the idea of the list itself, but the actual term bucket list. Didn't exist before that film or was not the common name for a list of things to do before you die.
