Anyone else get anxiety spending big amounts of money?
See this is an attitude I don't understand. You've mentioned before that you're poor and yet when you do get a nice wad of cash, your first instinct is to spend it, even without having something in mind to spend it on. That's how you stay poor.
Me, I'm on pretty close to min wage too but full-time instead of part-time, and I earn $650 a week, which of course doesn't go as far in Australia as it does in the US. In any case, I've been working less than a year and have committed to saving 10% of my income. In doing so, I've accumulated over $2,500 in my savings account and like 400 in the hybrid account I recently started in a bid to save even more money.
If I were you, especially the way you describe your situation, I'd be putting that money away for safe keeping, at the very least until you have something in mind that you'd like to buy.
This isn’t from my savings and I’ve exceeded the amount I’m allowed to save. People on social security are only allowed to save up $2,000. We can only have a car that’s worth $2,000. So I have to spend it it’s only matter of on what. I could spend it on this gun I’ve wanted that’ll mostly keep its value or blow it on fatting food and electronics that’ll be with pennies on the dollar they Cost.
I’ve had the $1,000 for 4 months or so. I got $2,000 but spent other on family. I only got air pods and I bought new boots and pants.
I put back $120-200 a month Incase if taxes which becomes savings. But again I can’t save over $2,000.
This is something I’ve had in mind for years, but never got cause I got other ones for $500 or less.
Something about going over $500 for anything gives me anxiety. So I save and save. Others spend and enjoy life. If I died tomorrow what good would it done denying myself.
And on plus side they don’t care what I own so I could if needed sell the gun one day for $700ish or more, but it’s not considered savings.
On the other hand they might count my coin collection since it’s silver. I probably will have to start collecting copper coins or saving less cash i dont know.
I’m guessing you aren’t on disability or maybe Australia doesn’t have such rules.
Here it’s all about keeping poor poor so middle class feels better about themselves.
Though they don’t like that I’d be able to buy stuff. The feeling I get is they’d prefer I burn the money and have no savings

Yes, this would be my instinct. I always make sure I have a few thousand saved up for emergencies. If OP spends $1,000 (or whatever it was) on a gun and his boiler breaks down the next week, he'll be in trouble.
I rent so landlord would replace it. But I have savings despite everyone wishing I didn’t. I don’t touch it. Though we don’t have a boiler our place is all electric.
If I got caught with what I have they’d take it. They didn’t care as it was refund but I was expected to have spent it.
It’s shame I can’t save more then I do. Quite proud of myself for what i have in savings.

You should be proud. As for the limit on benefits, I'd forgotten about that; in the UK, the limit is something like £6,000, which is a lot easier. I'd spend the surplus on stocks and shares, or something liable to earn money for me, but I think there's also a limit to how much money you can have in investments as someone on benefits.

Yup that’s all part of the $2,000.

Same I tend to stock pile huge amounts of money and resources in games, way more then others.
Same here, i usually have a pile of cash but i'm also more of a prepper. In Elite Dangerous i have 3 mining ships placed strategically around the "bubble" close to high value resources so if the aliens invade and make my ships unavailable, i can travel to 3 destinations and start mining 10's of millions in a few minutes and in a day buy whatever is lost/locked up in the event.

We use them to go target shooting.
But why people collect them depends and most wouldn’t call it collecting. I don’t reslly collect as I shoot them.
Some more wealthy people collect historical guns. Like a prototype from 1916. Or one of the trial guns for us military adoption, guns used in wars. Same reason people collect armor, swords, bows, tanks, cars etc.
Then there’s people that will collect one type of gun especially in Europe where they have to pick one type.
Most collectors don’t shoot their guns as they see them as too valuable to shoot. Which mean I guess they have a point I mean shooting will gradually destroy the guns and older military guns are limited and one odd guns are one of a kind. I wouldn’t own a gun I don’t shoot. I have a 1 out of 1,000 limited edition gun I shoot, thus it’s lost value, this one I want is 1 out of 400. Others would oil it, put it in a oil bag, put it i a safe and keep it there so it remains in mint condition just like other collectors of things.
So i dont know that I’m a collector due to being poor.
Example some have every single Glock model that’s been made to the point where a $500 Glock sold in Europe was imported over to the USA and sold for $1700. They can’t even get the ammo for it here, so more then likely they bought it for their collection.
I wouldn’t buy such a gun. Guns are tools, tools should be used and enjoyed not locked up.
Shooting targets is fun and stress relieving.
Unless you’re competing. Target shooting is even an olympic sport. Then theirs high level competitions and low level ones.
Different ones have different requirements. There’s a whole level just for 1911 and such competition models exist. Like below
Such events are timed and test ones accuracy on targets given various movements or even running a course in case of 3 gun competitions. Just like other sports there are sponsored professional teams in the high level events that get tv coverage. The team people get paid millions and have uniforms. They get trophies and prizes, break records, become famous.
Low level is amateurs who do it for fun. I think if I won the lottery I’d get into such competitions for fun, I’d probably lose a lot but sometimes it’s just for fun. Example this one guy I watch will take ww2 guns and run them in 3 gun competitions which gives him a super disadvantage but is fun to see how they do, his coworker will run another set up, they’re do ww2 up soldier vs German soldier loadputs and even dress the part(I’m sure that gets them some strange looks at competitions)
Here’s and example of a competition 1911 that cost thousands, every gun will be different to the user as long as it falls into the competition specs.

Here’s a 3 guns competition video. Lots of women are into them and do quite well due to women being more naturally accurate shots then men. That’s why Russia recruited them as snipers.
I dont know who she is or what team she’s on, she’s in uniform. I don’t warch sports including shooting sports.
There’s also clay shooting sports with shotguns and extreme long distance competitions with rifles.
There was even a successful 13 year old girl in competition at professional level and she’s hardly alone. She’s probably 16 now
If I were you I would save in cash to buy whatever you want. What reasons do you have to trust the govt. anyway?

Well, there's historical value, there's fascination with the technological development, there's fascination with cool/weird/unusual stuff...Many reasons, really.
Some people collect cars. Why would anyone do that?
Also, i don't know how the american system work, but can't you take money out as cash and save it wihtout it messing with your benefits?

Unless they find out. Example if I bought s bike for $5,000 they’d be like nope and strip me of my social security.
So I spend it on stuff that makes me happy and don’t risk losing my benifits.
Otherwise I’d just have nothing it savings and sadness
You said you couldn't buy a car because the Social Security rules don't allow you to have more than $2000 cash (or something like that). Have you ever considered putting $2000 down and financing the purchase? You don't make a lot of money, but you do have income stability. I would check with a credit union first, they are often friendlier to small accounts.
A car would certainly give you a different lifestyle, with a lot more freedom and more options for places to work. It would impress the chicks, too.
You can get into a decent used car for $6000 to $8000. It's worth thinking about, anyway.
Make sure you are able to get a driver's license before that kind of purchase though. It would not make any sense if you found out you are unable to drive.

Ssi limits car value to $2,000
Also I have terrible credit so no one would give me loan anyways .
I have a license and had s car 3 years ago.
I can’t afford upkeep. $100+ a month
Bus is $25 a month

True - this is a very good strategy. I set one of these up for my daughter, but it isn't funded until I die. There's no reason it couldn't be, though.
