Sometimes pills have side effects while your body adjusts to them, so when you aren’t taking them regularly, you aren’t giving your body a chance to adjust to them.

You should try taking your medications as prescribed for awhile and see how it goes. Also, discuss any side effects you think you are having with your doctor.

It is so hard to take morning pills. Why all that work has to be essential when I'm groggy and wobbly, I dunno. In spite of having it all organized (pills in Dispills on table, with cup of leftover coffee), I also have to get to the bathroom first, wash myself down with a disposable cloth, change my caftan, feed the cat (Neeoww! !!), and finally sit down. Only then can I take my pills. Then I have to take my blood pressure and my glucose. And only *then* can I make myself a cup of coffee, which I make with Glucerna (or Ensure) for reasons of stability. On lucky days, I add raspberries.

I take 2 naps during the day and each time I wake I have to do this all over again (pills: Lunch, Dinner, Bed) - it sounds organized but if I'm upset I can miss an entire day and not know what happened. It's a terrible moment when I pick up my Dispills and find that yesterday is still there.

So I feel for you, ASS-P. You have it worse than I do.

Rant: why is there nothing between hospital and shelter?
Because of liability if they give you the meds, I suppose.
But why not have a little permanent room 24/7?
I know society isn't rigged that way but couldn't we?
And why could not a human pass by quickly with a big glass of water?

Or maybe create places to go during the day, safe from police and librarians?

What about those tent cities people build during long-term demonstrations?

Let us make something!

There are places to stay in the daytime that cater to the homeless. Even with showers. ASS-P has the addresses. He knows how to use the bus.

Part of the reason you are tired during the day and can't sleep at night is because you don't take your meds. uncontrolled CHF causes both. You could get yourself headed in the right direction if you took your meds as prescribed for many weeks in a row.

...I am greatly rushed around,I'm not even talking at greter lengthh to explain how much physical difficulty and , sometimes, aggro I have to deal with in the moring at the shelter! I. JUST. AM. SO. RUSHED. AROUND. AND. HARRIED. At least one of the daytime centers Blaz mentions is up a considerable hill, I believe. The way I am hampered by my crippled-ness is a major factor here :( !

...The 11:10 poster (Has he been banned :( ?) brings up Patterson ~ It was not a liscenced board-and-care, and sure was providing little exercise. The fact that " Daniel " was squeezing me for all my spare money (This was above and beyond the $900 a month I was being charged, which I was not objecting to.), and trying too gain my confidence like a pimp or cult leader ~ To get more money? ~Well.
There was an admittedly extreme case in Sacaremento in the 80s, of a woman who ran a care facility/boarding house for old men nobody wanted (Like I am beginning to be :( - And I do think some others here are not far behind me.), she would not let them see their mail, and took their Social Security checks ~ and she killed them and buried their bodies in the backyard and kept collecting their checks from SS. (She was caught eventually)
Cock ~ I did go to the ER. I think I sid that I got a pill prescription and went away.

There seem to be only two assisted living facilitiy houses in Patterson like the one you described. They are 1.4 miles away from each other. Both in a neighborhood virtually identical to the one I lived in in Las Vegas. Both are basically the same type of assisted living facility as the one I am planning on moving into. I would have no qualms about living in the ones in Patterson.

...s**t has really f****d up. I came back to the shelter this night - to find that the things I had untucked under my bed are GONE. A blue bag with reading. Q whole bunch of needed-cleaning laundry waiting to be washed. Oh, and those pills. All gone.
Basically, I"m sure that it was staff here that took it (IF I find out I was wrong, or get anything back, I will mention that here. Don't hold your breath.) Including the things I mentioned a day-two ago?? as disappearing from my locker, this is the FIFTH time, in twosomething months, my possessions have gone " bye-bye " from here. :skull: :|

I have spoken to people at emergency resource centers in the city where he is. Also called many of these resources. There is an amazing set of resources for homeless people in his city, but there are also an overwhelming number of homeless people. Many are in just as bad shape as ASS-P and they are not impressed by his array of problems. Apparently they are overwhelmed with people as bad or worse. He is on a wait list for emergency services, where he would be given a place to live, medical assistance, case management, stabilization, etc., but his number is just over 1000.

ASS-P's biggest problem is setting priorities. I have talked to him about this. He declines many of the opportunities available to him and he has good "reasons" for his choices, but they are quite skewed away from actually solving his problems.

This is why I am encouraging him to get input from the entire community. Perhaps someone can get through to him, where I cannot.

I don't mean to be heartless or beat a dead horse but you need to be in a convalescent home like the one you had in Patterson. Maybe after up to a year of convalescence with supervised rest, nutrition, medication and exercise you might possibly be well enough to get back on your own again. Otherwise you're likely to continue experiencing the same stuggles you're currently having which seem to be pretty much the same as you've been having for many years, except that you're further deteriorating.

Ezra makes some very good points and has clearly know ASS-P longer than I have. He has made other good points also in this thread. It is hopeless if ASS-P is not willing to make some changes. He was in a medical homeless shelter with assistance to get medical care and he got kicked out for pretty good cause, although he denies it.

Ezra, is this Patterson, NJ?

It's Patterson, California. Probably 100 miles from San Francisco.

Perhaps, there was some guy exploiting him---like he said.

Probably, the public transportation there is limited (though it exists). Probably, it's not as nice there as San Francisco or Santa Cruz. It seems like a place with lots of mall-type places, and no "culture." Very spread out.

Not a "bad" place by any stretch of the imagination. But probably difficult for someone with mobility issues.

$900 a month is a good chunk of change for a guy who gets a little more than $1,000 in benefits. I sort of sense that there, perhaps, was a "halfway house" quality about that place in Patterson. Perhaps he had a restrictive curfew. Perhaps, the residents are treated somewhat like prisoners. Perhaps, there are rather draconian rules.

It would have been great had ASS-P kept that apartment he had in San Francisco which was private, yet had a bathroom in the hall.

As far as I can tell there are only two residential assisted living houses in Patterson like ASS-P described. They are quite easy to find by simply doing an internet search for Patterson CA care home. Call them both and ask if Daniel is there. My guess is since the homes are so similar and close together they are affiliated.

From what I can see they are exactly the kind of place I will move into.

You don't really need money when living in an assisted living home. Everything is provided. Meals, utlities, cable, internet etc plus people to look after you.

Caregivers usually charge about $75 per ride. That's the way it works. Go ahead an call a place that offers rides by a licenced professional caregiver and see how much you'd get chrged for a ride to a doctor office and back.
