On a good day, I am a sunflower,
standing tall, smiling bright,
always facing the sunshine.
Passersby stop to look for a moment,
and I bask in their gaze,
delighted by the attention.
The heat breathes life into me, and I feel I'm one with myself.

On a bad day, I am a hurricane.
I roar loud as a lion, angry and hungry.
The very energy rolling off of my shoulders
can lift a house and toss it aside.
With each wave of violence comes
a moment of calm, quiet and foreboding,
but I only wish to move the storm to open waters.

On a neutral day, I am dust,
dancing in the light that falls from the window.
I am slow and purposeless, only meaning to
find a surface to anchor to.
The day passes me with hardly any notice,
and I wonder who this day was for.
Not for the sunflower, but also not for the storm.
