I know some people who had the booster and the annual flu jab on the same day and they were fine.

I'm paranoid about covid today. My aunt has been tested positive for covid, and the last time I saw her was 6 days ago but she started showing symptoms 3 days ago. I don't know if you're contagious days before showing symptoms or not. Me or my boyfriend haven't shown any symptoms, but today my ears feel funny and I keep feeling lethargic and headachey. I also feel out of breath at work but I think it might be due to being dressed for winter on an unseasonably mild day (I work outside). I do suffer with hay fever all year round and I've been smelling mold in the apartment, so sometimes that upsets my ears and nose. Plus I'm due for a period so that gives me headaches. My boyfriend is fine though. Maybe we'll get tested anyway, just to be safe. But I don't think we have it. I don't know where my aunt got it from though, as she has hardly mixed with people lately and always wears a mask and washes her hands a lot when out, and the people she did see recently have been tested negative.

Do you have any lateral flow tests at home?

No, but I'll ask my boyfriend to pick some up from his work, as they have them there.

I think I will have the third vaccine eventually, but I'd wait until at least February.

I wanted to get my booster and flu shot on one trip but I was eligible for the booster shot a few weeks before they started doing flu shots. I didn't want to wait for the booster shot so I went as soon they would do me...it was the first day they were taking walk-ins and they were still putting up signs. I made it a point to get my flu shot as soon as I could, too, even though it was another trip—they gave me the stronger "≥ 65 yrs" mix on that one.

The good news is that meant two trips to the hospital's dining hall. :) They have good food! On the booster shot trip I had tilapia and on the flu shot trip barbecue.

My bride knew from experience that the COVID shots would make her tired for a few days so she delayed her shots so that would fit her planned activities better. She got both shots together a week after I got my flu shot.

I got my booster about 3 weeks ago. Very little ill effects. Went to work. Just felt sort of woozy for a couple of hours.

As a person with anxiety I seem to worry more about the rare risks than I do the common risks.

Like when I get on a plane I worry more about the plane crashing than I do a car crashing when I'm in a car, even though car crashes are more likely to happen. I think it's because all car crashes are different, a lot of people survive car crashes, and car crashes happen quickly before you have time to anticipate it. When something goes wrong on a plane it's scarier because you're stuck in the air and you're anticipating a possible death. People very rarely get out of plane crashes alive. Also terrorists target planes more than they do cars.

But the reason I worry more about the tiny risks from vaccines than I do the greater risks of the actual virus is because the few people who did have life-threatening reactions from the vaccines were probably told the same as I get told: "it's very rare, it most likely won't happen to you". But the rarer it is the more it frightens me.
Is there a term for this type of irrational thinking?

Catastrophic thinking. I have the same issue, Joe! *hugs*

Ah, good answer. I think it is common in a lot of humans though to actually focus on the least likely risks. I think it's because the greater risks are usually everyday occurrences that we're trained to accept and live with, where as the rarer things that happen are broadcasted worldwide.

Well I got the Pfizer booster at around 8:30 this morning. I feel OK up to now. Just a bruised feeling at the site of the injection.

It was the army administratoring the vaccines so if you like men in uniforms get yourself down there. You might be in for a treat.

I'm glad you have decided to go for it Joe.

How are you with it now?

I've received a text from the NHS to say I'm due for my third vaccine, so I just booked it for new years eve. I'm a bit nervous so I'll tell the people at the vaccination centre how I feel. But I've looked on the news website about the third vaccine being safe and I haven't found any articles or anything on people suffering life-changing effects from it. But I hope I don't end up ill for 3 weeks like my boyfriend's niece did. I've had the flu before that only lasted 1 week.

Try not to worry - I'm sure it will be fine.
Like babybird the only effect I had was a slight ache at the injection point, and that faded after a few hours.

I'm fine today. The aching in my arm is fading now and I've got no other side effects.

Having aches and pains for a day or two doesn't worry me, as my vaccine is booked on new years eve so I have 3 days off work after that anyway so I can rest. I can't afford to be ill for 3 weeks though, as I've had a lot of time off when my mother passed (although not as long as 3 weeks). In my whole life I have never been ill for more than 1 week, no matter how bad of a flu I had got. So I don't see how or why a vaccine could make me bedbound for 3 weeks. But that's what happened to my boyfriend's niece who is 32.

I have read that the stronger your immune system is the more likely you will suffer with unpleasant side effects from the vaccine. My immune system is very strong, even when I get an ear infection or a bladder infection it just fights itself off and goes on its own within 2 days. I'm hardly ever ill. The last time I got the flu I only had it for about 5 days, followed by deafness and a bad cough, which didn't last that long. So my boyfriend's niece might have had too strong immune system for the vaccine. I don't think they should force people with strong immune systems to have the thid vaccine, I think 2 vaccines should be enough for us. Having a vaccine every 3 months surely isn't healthy?

I also heard that the Pfizer can cause vomiting as a side effect if you have it for your third shot - which I read AFTER I booked it. :(
Will I be able to take an antisickness pill after my vaccine just to put my mind at ease? I have a phobia of vomiting (which is why I don't drink much alcohol).

Those of you here who have had the third shot - do you consider yourselves to have a strong, healthy immune system? My boyfriend's immune system is weak and he has COPD and diabetis, so he had no side effects from all 3 of his vaccines. I just had body aches and a sore arm with my second shot, but it only lasted a day. The sore arm isn't pleasant but I can cope with that. After all, I am a woman and we get periods once a month so we're kinda used to pain.
