From what I've read:

The average life expectancy for people with ASD is 36 years.

Research shows that people who are lonely and have no families have significantly shorter life spans.

Obesity significantly shortens life spans.

Quote:
Loneliness can be deadly: this according to former Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, among others, who has stressed the significant health threat. Loneliness has been estimated to shorten a person’s life by 15 years, equivalent in impact to being obese or smoking 15 cigarettes per day.

So, loneliness and obesity each can shorten a person's life expectancy by 15 years. Combined that makes 30. The average life expectancy in the US is 70 years.

70-30=40

I'm turning 40 this year.

At this point, even if I do finally get my life together, I'll already be on my death bed. So what's the f**king point?! ! !

If I remember correctly it is skewed more towards people who have stronger autism and probably have other comorbidities. That vulnerability makes people targets and just in general more fragile. There is still a point of trying to improve things for yourself. I used to freak out about this a lot too then read into the issue more.

Yer but what is stronger autism? I thought there was no such thing as severity on the autism spectrum any more... It's all just a blanket label now, right?

That's an issue I have with the new autism label. It's just three stages of severity with no regard for intelligence and the ability for someone to take mitigating action.
