Narcissism as a derogatory term gets way overused. Especially on the internet. So it makes sense you'd feel that way. You are probably seeing and hearing about it a lot more these days.

Yes, NPD is real. And yes, there are people who have been traumatized/abused by them. There are also a lot of folks out there playing amateur psychiatrist ready to give the label to just about everyone. Not all of the behaviors and traits qualify for a pathology however.

That still isn't going to change my misanthropic views about the whole damn human race. People suck.

I was thinking again about people risking their lives to save others.

In 2005 there was a terrorist attack on London- buses and tubes were blown up.

A terrorist blew himself up on the tube and destroyed that carriage. The passengers in the next carriage actually broke into the damaged carriage to see if they could save the occupants. Most of the occupants were dead or dying and total strangers sat with them as they died, to provide comfort and support. Other passengers led traumatised survivors to safety, keeping calm while others panicked.

It does seem as if when faced with horrific situations, many people step up to be heroes.

Obviously many people don't, but it seems more likely that they will. We are a funny old species.
