At least he’s acknowledged that this is some form of severe mental illness vs denying it.

Also a good thing that he’s agreed to go see a doctor.

Next he’ll have to accept their professional assessment, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan.

One step at a time. Hopefully he can accept that doctors are most likely correct and whatever they prescribe is intended to help him.

Turns out my daughter knew something was going on and she was also scared because he had been acting different and things he's been saying. I told her he went to the hospital and his brain is just sick and the doctors will figure out what is going on. He has brain damage and seizures for all I know, what had been going on with him could have been caused by that and he may need to go back on his meds again but we don't know that yet.

I read online that psychosis can be caused by brain injury and seizures. My mom calls it mania. He can't even remember half of the things he says and no longer remembers saying the gov is after him so he is no longer scared. He said he never said that and I decided to just drop it. He isn't lying or gaslighting me, it's just his delusions that change constantly so his memories change.

Honestly, I think it sounds like he needs a brain scan.
An MRI could rule out brain tumours.

I didn't want to say it and scare you.
Since you're considering everything else, I'll put it on the table.

My beau went to New York in the summer for a brain MRI.
He had sudden personality changes and his doctor thought tumour.

Mania is pretty much the (bi)polar opposite of depression. That's why bipolar people are called manic-depressive. Hyper, grandiose thoughts etc.

You haven't really described him being manic so much as you've described him being paranoid & delusional.. which is why I'd point more towards some form of schizophrenia vs. bipolar.

I'm glad you're getting some help for him now.

Hopefully your husband is going to end up taking his medications properly again and will get well in time.

They're keeping him in there for 5 days to 2 weeks. Because of kids involved, they had to keep him there. Worst case scenario, he decides to refuse treatment. Then after that. I'll check out and go from there and work on being single again.

Are they his children, and who owns the house?

Also, here's a link -

Yes, they're his kids and his name is on the house and no I do not plan on keeping them from him. This is their dad. But if he refuses treatment, I would hate for CPS to come and take them away so I would be left with no choice if he refuses treatment. I will always be on good terms with him if it comes down to this but this is too soon to tell.

Sending hugs and good wishes.
I hope he accepts treatment and your kids will be OK.

I know what you mean about wanting the kids to see him. I was the same way with mine. I still wish they'd had a father figure who loved them and participated in their lives. Unfortunately mine chose to be an ahole and only caused them pain.

Depending on the meds and dosage, if your husband just went cold turkey rather than tapering off, it could have caused a reaction that caused his 'episode'.

Antidepressant discontinuation syndrome, also called antidepressant withdrawal syndrome, is a condition that can occur following the interruption, reduction, or discontinuation of antidepressant medication following its continuous use of at least a month.[5] The symptoms may include flu-like symptoms, trouble sleeping, nausea, poor balance, sensory changes, akathisia, intrusive thoughts, depersonalization and derealization, mania, anxiety, and depression.[2][3][4] The problem usually begins within three days[2] and may last for several weeks or months.[4] Rarely psychosis may occur.[2]

^ Antidepressants can indeed have severe withdrawal effects. I know this first hand.

Doctors haven't figured out yet what is causing this so they are going to scan his brain for any activity and see if any growth is happening.

He doesn't know why he is in the hospital and he is bored there because he has nothing to do. No computer and he can't be on the internet but he can watch TV and read. I guess they have no activities there or games or books.

I want to see him tomorrow now that he is accepting visitors. But it's only 1 visitor a day for half hour and no kids. They are hoping they can release him by Thanksgiving. Thar is if they figure out what is causing it and put him on some medication.

Back when I was taking them, if I missed even one dose on accident, I would feel nausous, tired, have headaches, hot flashes, have difficulty sleeping. When I had to stop taking them before I got pregnant, I followed my doctor's directions to get off them. I had to lower my dose each day before stopping.

Wishing the best for you and your family.
I also agree going off antidepressants cold turkey could trigger this.
I went off them too quickly and it wasn’t good.

It might be something worth pointing out to the Dr's if they don't know.
