Anyone else with AS get hit by "very depressed" moods in the absence of sympathetic attitudes? I get big time depressed, but it manifests itself on a mostly subconscious level (lethargy, inability to think, triggerless crying). Is this just high cognitive dissonance or an inability to read my own feelings adequately?

Yes. There's usually a psychological trigger, but I don't have to be consciously thinking negative thoughts to feel depressed. The fact that it's subconscious makes it so hard to deal with. People who think you can just "snap out of" depression annoy the crap out of me.

right now I feel extremely depressed because everything in my life is going wrong and my life has no direction. Every morning it gets harder to get up. And I'm really sick of "get over it", when life hits rock bottom you don't just "get over it."

No, you don't just get over it....

Either something has to change
or you need to accept things.

I think acceptance is obvious but change needs a little more explanation;
- Sometimes it's you that has to change.
- Sometimes it's others
- Sometimes it's the environment or the situation.
- Sometimes, it's just a change in point of view.

I think the important thing is that if you're not going to accept things, then you need to be involved in changing them somehow.

You need to identify the problems and actually want things to change - of course, this is generic advice - I'm not familiar with your particular issues.

We're all available to help though.

You're usually a bit depressed about Murray Bridge but I guess you've accepted it for now - good.

It sucks here, but I shouldn't get depressed over it.

Aww...*hugs dragonboy*. Well i'm glad that your still alive...I would be very upset if you died. :(

I voted "somewhat depressed". Most of the time, I don't really feel anything...kind of numb. If I do feel something, it is either excitement about an obsession, or depression.
I was suicidally depressed about 1 and a half years ago, attempted suicide a few times. I'm just thankful that i'm not in that state of mind anymore.

Tim,

You do sound a bit down - what's going on...

You're in a new term aren't you? Uni Problems? People? WP?

Anything we can help you with?

I am having difficulties with one of my classes (structural geology), and a woman who I thought was perfect for me turned me down romantically.
