I spent a lot of time on Delphiforums and WrongPlanet when AS was new to me and I needed to work things out. Offering answers to people helped me think about what knowing I have AS means for my future as opposed to what my ignorance of it meant for my past. BTW, I love making long sentences. Anyway, I don't post as much anymore since I see others offering the same answers I would before I get to the questions.
As for being ignored, not everyone who uses and appreciates advice will respond. You can make a difference for someone online and never know it.
People used to advertise for pen pals in hobby magazines to trade recipes, crochet patterns, tips to soup up cars, chess strategies, etc. My mother and sister had pen pals for a while, but there were a LOT of scam artists there. Web forums are the modern interactive pen pal systems for various interests. You come, you go, you come back, you go again. You can go forever or you can think you will then come back anyway. And there are a LOT of scam artists on the web. The bad always follows the good.
I won't be around the forums as much, especially if the company I applied to last week makes an offer. If I go away for a while, I'll likely come back. Meanwhile, I appreciate the feedback and education I've gained, especially from people who challenged my ideas intelligently. I never would have talked to most of these people in real life. I simply don't try to make new acquaintances. No motivation for it.
