It makes sense for right now, but I think we as a society need to come up with a cut off point, where in a few months down the road, we say, okay, enough is enough we need to start the economy up and running again, in order to survive, regardless of the virus.
But no one seems to be interested in agreeing on a cut off point.
Not true. Every government and health agency everywhere is working on that.
Whatever is done has to be done with epidemiologist’s input so we don’t f**k it up and kill more people than necessary. Obvi Right Now is the time to stay the f**k home and flatten the curve of the first wave. They’ll figure out what’s next as time goes on and daily data rolls in.
Also, there are other nerds working on modeling this, too. A few Doctors of engineering and various nerdy non medical disciplines at UBC have created a model that they hope might be used to decide how to do a stage by stage return to work and life that would then monitor number of C-19 cases and what to do about throttling restrictions on/off of numbers continue to rise. One example they gave was allowing people to go to restaurants again but only within 1km (approx .6 miles) from their home so that they can keep any outbreaks to a tight cluster.
The nurse that posted the link was critical of any get back to work and life measures right now especially since these guys that made the model are not medical doctors or epidemiologists. The guys that made the model are hoping that epidemiologists contact them and work together to improve it and utilize it. Time will tell if it ever gets used here or anywhere else.. but I assure you, nerds of all types from engineers to economists all over the world are nerding away on plans and schemes intended to get people back to work and life safely and healthily as soon as they can.
