I agree with all except for the better phone or laptop. Those things are luxuries for AFTER you’re able to pay for much more essential pressing needs like healthy food, medicine, shelter, clothing etc and not an item I’d put on a survival goals checklist. Maintaining A phone/internet connected device (even if only free wifi) isn’t wasteful for the communication, knowledge/information, entertainment etc it provides for a reasonable price. But spending $$$ on a laptop before you’ve nourished your body is having one’s priorities out of order IMO.

It’s always easier to solve someone else’ problems because we don’t get caught up thinking about all the what if’s etc that we do with our own problems, or the analysis paralysis etc. Same thing with being able to clean up a mess at work or a friends home, we don’t waste time getting distracted by all of our own items and the keep/donate/discard decisions. It’s not abnormal in the least bit to be able to see easily workable solutions to others problems and not our own. It’s so common that a Facebook friend recently posted about this and suggested maybe people should help one another with their problems of all sorts morein order to get a lot more problems resolved. Normal thing, no need to beat yourself up about it.

Hell, I’m another classic example: I often give advice to others about their problems right here on the forums while I am literally ignoring or procrastinating resolving my own. Then I get bursts of motivation and energy and will tackle a bunch of life things from small things like cleaning to bigger things when I’m in “get things done,” mode and my symptoms cooperate with me to do so. I’d say most people are like this, NT’s included.

You're right dude. Those things must, must come first.

Wow, I didn't know this.

I get those bursts to.

This may seem weird to you.

And, I realized something about myself and ASS-P sorta showed me it. I want to be confident and positive because I desire to be these things not b/c society, Mr. Bronson or employers say I should and it is inherently required. And, I wish to define what confidence and positivity means to me on my own terms not their terms. I wish to be my genuine, authentic self not a caricature of someone else's archetype. When I feel like I'm being conjoled into these things my very soul resists with every fiber of its being.

Do you get what I'm saying?

Kinda I guess. You're a non-conformist to the core. That's ok. If you were just different, yet very self confident and positive, you'd get along a lot better with the world - even while remaining different. This I'm sure of. I don't think you have to become a cookie-cutter NT in order to mesh with the world well enough to get on with work, play, and life. You can still have your own interests and values. I do. But I'm much more confident and positive than I used to be - and that's made a huge difference in my ability to work & get along with others. I'm still my own kind of aspie weird, and I'm ever more okay with it.

...(I'm going to be downbeat now.) Let's see. Other/s say that I should not have not have any tech. You say I should the royalties die abandoned. Why????? Because you say so?
I have NONE of my brother's things, isn''t that better yet than some? :( Now, perhaps I am, physically alone, not up to ever going to uni  . .Maybe I should just plan " count down to die ". I did want to be " a student ", as well as the education. Maybe just let the dream die      .

I disagree!

If what you're doing is affecting one's mental or physical health then one should give up the ghosts. If what you're doing is affecting other people negatively then one should give up the ghost.

Part of the confusion of this conversation is that it seems cubedemon6073 has no idea what the phrase "give up the ghost," means. cube, it means to die. To give up the ghost means to allow the ghost or spirit to leave your human body. kraftie was saying it's better to persevere and have attitude etc (spunk) than to just give up on life (literally) & die.

You're right dude I didn't know. Thanks for telling me. What I was saying is ASS-P needs to focus on his health first. Ditch the college idea, find himself some shelter, part with most of his brother's stuff, forget the mineral royalty thing. Make sure his ID is current. Save up a bit of money to get a tablet or laptop or better phone. He has disposable income if one thinks about it. Oh, ASS-P should lay off the McDonalds.
Hmmmm wow, I can provide objective solutions for ASS-P but can't solve my own s**t. Why is that?[/quote]

No one said you should not have any tech. I said it should not be anywhere near a first financial priority to upgrade tech when there are more pressing concerns like food & medicine. New & better tech is a luxury for after pressing medical & nourishment needs are met.

cube said forget about the royalties. I assume he assumes they're unrecoverable. I don't know the facts. If there's money sitting somewhere for you and you can get it, by all means, get it. If there isn't and you can't get it, then there's no point in dwelling on it - that's when it would be worth abandoning the idea, once you know you can't possibly obtain that money, then there's no sense in pursuing it any further.

Again, cube referenced my suggestion of not weighing yourself down with material possessions and family mementos you cannot afford to store anywhere. I've also more recently suggested, multiple times, that I would make a phone call and see if I could get info from the lawyer about the possessions and see if it may be possible to have small items, like photos, put into an envelope and mailed directly to you so you'd at least have something vs. nothing. But you haven't taken me up on that offer, so, I can only guess you still haven't had an email response from the lawyer's office and still have no idea what the status of your brothers stuff is.

Maybe there's value in daydreaming about going to university & so you should continue to dream that dream if it helps keep you going. I think people advising you to stop going on about returning to college are suggesting your time & energy is better spent focused on your health and living situation in the here and now vs. focusing on trying to to go school when you haven't got your health nor living situation stabilized yet.

ASS-P, that's not what we are saying at all. What we're telling you is you have to prioritize. And, that might mean giving up some things at least for now. Would your brother be wanting you to worry about his stuff when you are homeless yourself and in bad health? This is your life we're talking about. If you want the rest of your life to be of good quality you will have to give up a few things and concentrate on things like good nutrition and good health.

Can someone que me into whats going on here? I skimmed some of this ginormous thread, and what I can make out is that Ass P is a chronically ill homeless person. I'm glad he is getting the medical help he needs, but what is this about his brothers stuff? I'm not sure why this is so important or why so many posts discuss it.

His younger brother, who lived in a group home in New York state, passed away a few months ago. ASS-P has inherited his estate including family photos. ASS-P hadn’t seen his brother for twenty years or so and has no family memorabilia. He’s been in touch with the lawyer but has questions about how to have the goods shipped to him and possibly stored. He’s been waiting a while to find out how large the shipment might be.

Ok, I'm not sure why this is a 200+ post topic still. Just have the stuff shipped to his PO box. If its to big, the post office will simply put a note in there telling him he has some things awaiting pick up.

ASS-P’s PO box is at some type of special location for homeless people so part of the concern is if it can be shipped there and if it’s a lot of stuff how would he get it to a storage facility. He doesn’t know if its a shoe box size amount or a shipping container. Last ASS-P wrote about it, the lawyer hadn’t responded to his questions about the size. That was over a month ago I think.

Ok but then why discuss it at length here? Seems to me he just needs to call this lawyer and get it hammered out.

Does Ass P have no phone? I don't understand why you would have to do this otherwise.

He has a phone. I think he's verbal. But his communication style is.. extremely rough, as can be seen on the forums. If he made a phone call to a lawyer's office they'd likely hang up on him before he could finish yelling at them about what he wanted. I offered to make a phone call to find out the info about the size of the box & of photos could be mailed and rest donated/discarded if that's what ASS-P wanted because there were 10's of pages of debate about it and he's just waiting for an email from the lawyer's office that may never come. ASS-P's health is pretty f****d, so as much as he's an internet panhandler that pisses me off trying to get others to pay to store his brother's stuff, I figured I'd offer to make a phone call and see about having photos etc shipped so that he could at least have them before his own health issues catch up with him and he's off to join his brother in the afterlife. I really don't think ASS-P's brain functions in a way that enables him to make a phone call & have a proper conversation.

IC. Have you actually talked with him before? It may be that he just has trouble typing. I don't think he should be asking other people to store these things for him. What good would that do? He still wouldn't have them.
