RANT: why can't people READ?

No kidding. When I talk about lazy people and people who don't even try and help themselves and they find excuses, someone will read that post and throw in disabled people like vision loss, hearing loss, people who are in wheelchairs, learning disabled, etc. saying I want them to over come that and accuse me of being ignorant. Stupidity or they just want to pick a fight with me because they know what I said was right and it fit them to a T.

Exactly. I've seen one person on this very forum do this to a few people very recently. And of course, when the op properly addresses and corrects the offender's slew of ignorance, the offender just shuts up and never says another word.
But DARE to offend him in any way, shape or form, whether he imagined the slight or not, and he spouts even more nonsense that has nothing to do with the original post.

I commented on a news article after reading through a few hundred previous responses. In the middle of my entry, I inserted a quote (using the formatted quote function) and proceeded to refute the previous point.

The next comment accused me of being anti-gay and anti-gay marriage.

My own avatar next to my comment was a cat in front of a rainbow flag. So not only could the gentleman be bothered to read, but he didn't even have time to look at a giant, multicolored box to the left of the post.

Also, at work, people will stare directly at the sign that says "Tickets Only," and, after a few uncomprehending moments, look at me and ask "Is this where I buy tickets?" or "Can I get popcorn here too?"

Which proves that it isn't that they are unwilling to read, but honestly cannot. I blame the information distribution structures in modern society. Reading is treated as either a special achievement or an archaic hassle.
