Go on doing the same old, you tend to get the same old. Do something different, and you tend to get different results. I am guessing you don't want to hear this, but you may need to really consider this, instead of just reacting with the anger which you feel - it's ok to be angry when you have had a bad run, though being stuck in the anger gear takes away your ability to drive... try doing the opposite and thinking the opposite, just for 30 minutes. Start small and build on it. You need a better life and I hope sincerely that you find your way to it. All the best.

...What's 211 ? No doubt it says earlier , but ~
Now , please remember this - I HAVE NO CELL PHONE .
Therefore , I can only make calls from the library's payphones ~ AFTER an EXAUSTING , LONG , walk up the hill ~ AND , CANNOT BE CALLED BACK AT ALL . Oh , and I'm uncontrollably cough-cough-coughing at unexpected times , too , now , since I'm sick , so phone calls to new people...

Sorry, buddy...I thought you had a cell phone.

You could call 211 from the library.

I understand the bind you are in. If it's not one thing, it's another.

They make it very hard on the homeless here. What you really want, in due time, is not to be homeless any more.

If you don't get results from 211, you should go back to the drop-in place and ask them. You need a locker--I understand that. You want to get rid of that ball-and-chain.

I know that guy you mentioned in Washington State is far away. And I know he probably can't get you a job and/or a place to sleep--but you should just give the guy a call and talk about things. This might help you, too.

I thought you had one of those "pay as you go" phones.

...Basically I can't call whatever-211-is today anyway . I've spoken to the friend - who is a WP regular - loads , however , I'm kind of giving him a break now .
I'm not sure what " drop-in place " you mean .
Believe me , lockers are " gold hen's teeth "-level scarce ! Places tend not to have them , ewven if they have other things .
IF the UGH (which I have experience with , remember) , which that Canadian is so obsessed with , offered me something (not 100& given at all) , it would have to have " locker " -ability , for when I was out , to be meaningful at all .
Remember , when I was anticipating the operation , I said I would need " learn-to-walk-again " rehab . Well , I did . :( And I didn't get it  .

I thought you go into a drop-in center,, then they send you to a shelter.

That's why they do here in New York.

I know people who work with the homeless could be a**holes at times--but...maybe...if you kiss butt a little bit, you could get info on a locker. Yep...sometimes, in this life, you have to kiss butt. I don't mean bowing down to them....but a little "yes sir" might do you a bit of good. Sometimes, in a way, in this life, you have to be a bit of a con man. Forget about "selling out." "Selling out" is for those who have a stable home environment.

You might be right...I don't understand your situation. But I'm trying to.

...Where I am now (not UGM) isn't a drop-in center in that sense , I believe .
Another place was/is , but certainly DID NOT provide lockers , and had BIG signs up , saying " TAKE YOUR STUFF ~ Anything Left Behind After ____PM Will Be Thrown Away " .
Okay ?????????
I don't think any " butt-kissing " will change that , or similar .
Now , if I could rest...even a bit , temporarily  ...........

I can dig what you're saying, man.

If I were in your situation, I'd probably be pissed off as well.

How about other homeless folk? Don't they have info? Some of them are not outright psychos. Many of them actually are rational most of the time.

LOL...You're an Aspie...you're not some hebephrenic nut!

I think asking questions, no matter how hard it might be to be in contact with people, will help you get what you want. Being Aspie is not hopeless in the sense of being superficially social.

You're in a situation where you need help. There are people who could provide the help. Some of them are homeless. Some of them might even be Aspie. You want to get rid of the ball and chain? Probably the best thing to do is to ask a homeless person who obviously doesn't have a load to carry. Some of them will be glad to give you the information you want.

People make one vague suiggestion , expect you to follow it 100% & and never ask them for any extra details about what you're supposed to do , and just tell them how great they are .
What is this UGM E-dress I'm supposed to contact ? Is it actually a reaching-someone address or just what was listed in one product of a search ? Everyone in the universe , you may be suprised to know , does not spend all their time online , as WP Aspies (myself included) tend to , and , IF the e-dress reaches an important desk of someone , IF they could answer questions like that , and they were , IF , so inclined to answer a blind e-mail from someone they've never , to their knowledge , heard of ~ Lots of " if "s , huh ???
And I don't think it's a bad idea to compare it to where I am at already ! Why shouldn't I ? Are you frustrarted because I haven't said where I am to you (and I'm not going to) ?
I cough-cough-cough AGAIN AND AGAIN , and loogie and snot a fair amount too ~ I could use some help . If you want to help without involving material benefit or comfort for me , perhaps you could ghost-write letters to wherever it is you want me to send such letters to , me seeing and approving those letters and perhaps editing them before they're sent , so they're truthful , like a politican's speech written for him by a speechwriter ! I have just 90 mins time in front of a reliable keyboard every day and am a slow typist , not trained ~ How about that ?
I have probably walked an amount comparable to that man in Detroit , and I have just been rendered a full-fleged (if lesser) cripple - I only want a chance to recover a little from it  .

I never asked or expected you yo tell me or B19 "how great we are." We simply have an expectation that helpful advice being offered be followed vs. be shot down w/o even trying. If you try it, and it doesn't work, then at least you've tried and people will be more likely to put effort and time into trying to help you out with some additional information or resources. If you refuse to explore the options of help you're offered, people won't want to make an effort to help you. It's that simple.

The email address is abuck@ugm.org - and 90minutes of internet time is plenty enough to send an email, even for the slowest typer. But ok, if you Need someone else to write a quick note, I can type quickly, here - use this if you like:

To whom it may concern at UGM,

I've heard that you offer a place for men to recover from illnesses and injuries. I recently had a few toes amputated due to complications from diabetes and am in need of a place to rest and recuperate. I don't need much, just a place to rest and hopefully a secure place to leave my luggage while I practice walking long distances again and regain my balance.

Whether you have a place for me or not I would greatly appreciate a quick response so that I can take the necessary steps to move in temporarily, or move on to trying to find some other suitable accommodations.

Thank you in advance for your time & consideration,
<insert your name here>

The story about the Detroit man isn't about the number of miles he's walked. It's more that he's never given up and has walked every one of those miles in order to help himself, not just put miles on his feet for the sake of aimless wandering and killing time.

...I had two different payasyougo , plus unlimited talktextweb plans , in 2014 . Both were stolen .
Costing me over $200 , IIRC . :(
It would take me forever to , even , get them (fully??) working , even whe I had them before they were stolen ~ I had such bad luck  .

I didn't say you wander aimlessly. I was talking about the man in Detroit in the article. His walking was with intent and purpose - to help himself as best he could. That's the difference people see in his long walks vs. others who happen to put a lot of miles on their shoes but don't tend to accomplish much of anything for it.

Good, we're in mutual agreement then. You're attitude is so negative I don't particularly want to give you any more of my time or advice. IF you were one to make an effort to help yourself, I'd be more inclined to help you. But since all you want to do is complain and ignore others' advice, there's no sense in spending any time trying to assist you. That's why you won't get much help from others if you haven't figured it out yourself.

Incorrect. I spent my time replying in your threads because you genuinely seem to be in need of helpful advice. But your reaction to people attempting to help you is so poor that it deters people from wanting to do anything to help you. Have you noticed that no one else new has bothered to post a reply and offer any sort of advice or help despite the fact that there are more thread views than just B19, Kraftie, and I? That's because you're being so rude and negative about the advice you're being offered that no one wants to bother spending their time researching anything or typing replies to you - because you can't help anyone who isn't willing to help themselves.

You could send an email to the journalist/reporter who wrote this article and ask if he knows where you could get emergency medical rehab. He may know. Even if he doesn't, he may find out for you. And even if he doesn't, you haven't lost anything. He may choose to write an article that will lead to help for you. You have to think outside the square when things seem totally hopeless.

Goldfish responded to you in a spirit of goodwill. So did I, and KK, and others. You want us to stop, then stop posting, we aren't a dumping ground for your rage, understandable though your rage it is, you don't have to throw it at WP members. I am sorry that so many awful things have happened to you, but magic wands are in very short supply. There is light at the end of this long dark tunnel, but you have to move toward it, it doesn't come down the tunnel to you. Sorry, but that's how it is.
