Maybe a change on Earth would destroy the only sapient species in the universe.

How so? The world on earth is nothing more than a microcosm of reality. Even the most radical change on our planet would have the most marginal impact on the known universe.

The size of impact on the universe is not a measure of its value.

No, in fact the opposite is true.

So we've been impacted by knowledge of the place we exist in? I find myself more awash in it than anything; there's a lot of universe to articulate as long as anybody feels like learning about it.

I dislike social sciences and defer myself to the natural sciences because their significance in the ultimate scheme of things exceeds those of artificial human sciences. By understanding natural principles and ignore the social sciences I think we grow our value as a human species. Perhaps maybe one day we can reverse aging and bring about biological immortality? Social sciences are useless because by their very nature, their solutions are temporary and ultimately limited to human interactions which will then, in turn, cease to be useful.

Now how is this relevant to the thread at hand? Well, by increasing the macroscopic influences of our knowledge, and understanding more of the natural sciences, we will unlock more answers to life's questions, which may be far more objective than the inferential-only realm of the social sciences.

I am a Catholic of Jewish origin, and I am deeply scientifically minded with degrees in Physics and Math, as well as Law. I have always maintained a belief in a high power of some sort, and my education has not influenced my spiritual facets to any degree.

Immortality strikes me as pretty dangerous... Most traditions suggest that any deity imbued with too much of it just gets bored & starts destroying all adjoining environs. It's almost like gods need office space.

^I think that if humans became immortal and stayed human, they would go crazy from boredom.

Without risking my own life in the name of fun I'd have no clue what to do with the remainder... :jester:

My seemingly endless reserves of spare time. One day I hope to discover how I come up with those...

Basically it's an imposition that takes patience rather than any sort of inherent quality. I wish I could say I'm naturally patient but I'm still always learning; however natural that may be... I'm just barely diplomatic enough to avoid danger, which clears a LOT of empty space-time to think clearly about what I actually need to do. I'm dealing with the pitfalls of small business some days but it's always worthwhile when I can find at least three days a week to get outside.
