I do post replies in other's threads. Why do the things I do go unnoticed? And I can't keep responding to everyone's post individually, it's not a card game. I wish this forum had a like button or something, then members will know that I do read their posts.

It's because peoples' main interest is themselves, and they like it if you ask them questions about them every now and then.

I'd like to add that this is an autism thing. I talk about myself too much as well. <-- Exhibit A

Nope, it's definitely a people thing, but autistics tend to go overboard.

And FTR, Joe, I don't "go around trying to avoid posting in certain people's threads just because that certain member didn't respond to my posts in another thread.", thanks. I just see you and think, "She won't reply, she either does not like me, or she doesn't want to know anyway. Either way, I won't bother her because she probably doesn't want to hear from me".

All people were trying to do was point out why your thread may not have gotten replies. We could have just gone along with you and said, "Yeh, those people probably have other things on their minds" and well, they probably do. But what helps you more, practical advice where you move on and learn from, or telling you white lies?

I prefer white lies or sugarcoated truths, not blunt replies that make me feel like I'm doing something wrong.

Hey Joe....I think you're getting a good amount of responses now.

Yeah, I noticed, although I wish I hadn't started this thread now because I feel people (not you) are undermining me here, as though it's like "you don't scratch our backs, we won't scratch yours". I really do not go on this forum to play social games. A member could always avoid my posts, but if I see a thread or post of their's that I can relate to or just interests me, I will contribute to it.
Also a lot of threads are about receiving a late diagnosis (in adulthood), and I can't really contribute much to those because I was only 8 when I was diagnosed so I don't really remember what happened.
I search the forum a lot, reading more threads than you think. I do avoid the politics and religeon thread though.

i wouldn't put it down to "group thinking". that term makes it sound like there's a conspiracy out against you.

Well, I meant it in a "everyone thinks the same as each other" way or "nobody's replying to that thread so I won't."

i can only speak for myself, but that is not how i think of you at all, when i see you here. you were one of the first members i recognized on here when i joined almost 3 years ago, and so i think it's cool you stuck around when quite a few others haven't. i like seeing you around.

Thank you. I have been told that my posts are interesting, which made me feel happy to keep posting.

sometimes, people make threads and posts about things that have already been brought up and discussed thoroughly, and they do not want to expend energy making replies that say the same thing they have already said. that's one reason some posts do not get replies that i've seen, and it doesn't just go for this site.

I think that is true. A bit like when I see another "Aspies have different facial/physical features" thread, saying a different list of random physical features each time. I now just ignore those threads.

Quote:
i'm not saying this is what you do, but that might play a part, dunno. i don't really study your posts, but i can say you are not confrontational from what i see, and i like that. some others here are far less of a pleasure to talk to.

Often I think of something, or something happens to me, where I have an urge to want to post about it here, just for members to read and share their own thoughts.

Quote:
people like to talk about themselves, and what interests them. the most popular threads allow others to go on and on about that, openly. maybe take note?

The most common threads are about Trump at the moment, and my opinions on him will probably start a flame war and even get me banned or something, so I just avoid politics altogether here. It's safer that way.

Quote:
then again, threads just don't get replies at all, maybe it just comes down to plain ol' bad luck, that your thread happened to be made at just the time when everybody else was already wrapped up in another discussion...so yours sank further down the forum, maybe down to the bottom of the page where it was even less liely to get replies...like some vicious cycle.

Threads seem to not get replied to much in the social skills and making friends forum, or take days or even weeks to get a reply. I often linger around on there, and I like replying to posts where the OP has made a social faux pas and is worrying about it, because I totally know how that feels.
The random discussion threads get drowned out by the dozens of those "what are you wearing today?" threads, or whatever you call them.

Pence is a conservative--but he is much less a "loose cannon" than Trump. I would actually feel safer with Pence, even though his ideas are sort of screwy.
I think it was made clear that this thread is not for discussing Trump. Those who have, should probably consider editing their posts to eliminate all references to that subject.

oh, okie. i like to be the first post in threads (heh) so when i see one that's open and had zero replies i'm very willing to reply actually, unless it's a huge wall of text, or something i cannot add to, at all. in those cases it is very discouraging.

but i think some other people are more willing to join, only when there are already responses and a discussion has been created.

no problem. :)

that might be at least a little better than just listing off the same features every thread, but considering the user turnover rate i suppose that's just gonna be an inevitability, having topics be repeated.

some topics can be resurrected instead of creating an all new discussion, but certainly not all of them.

ha, i do that too. only i post in existing threads, and not create new ones. i think i get less responses that way, but it feels better than starting a new topic. i avoid doing that, merely because i feel there are people here who need the time and attention far more than i do.

lol, yeah, good job. :P

it's a shame, really, what this election has done to this site.

i noticed that too, it's strange. adolescent autism as well. lots of threads with zero or one reply is not nearly as much of a problem in other subforums.

"I like replying to posts where the OP has made a social faux pas and is worrying about it" me too...i don't have a lot of life experience behind me, but i have some, and in the event i find a thread there and i am able to add something, it leaves me feeling very satisfied. maybe you have the same feeling. then again, though, if i see a wall of text i'm less likely to bother. i can't really blame those who post short one or two line replies to literal novels. it'd get exhausting otherwise.

that's a problem with off the wall, too

I never reply to posts in the adolescent forum as I never go there, because I don't believe I belong there, or in the women's forum either. Sometimes I question whether I truly belong in the adult forum.

The forums I go in the most are general autism discussion, random discussion, members only, social skills and making friends, the haven, women's discussion, and wrong planet discussion. Sometimes I visit the parents discussion, although I'm not a parent myself but it still interests me. I don't tend to go to television and film discussion because it's mostly about stuff I'm not into, like Star Wars or Doctor Who. I'm really not into any of those sorts of things.
