I'm all for that as well, if it can be arranged. Is this something his social worker / caretaker can help him with? How would he go about making that happen?[/quote]

I hear you - from my own attempt to research your options, it sounds like the next step toward a more stable housing situation would require your social worker's recommendation - perhaps for another SRO type of situation. And that might involve waiting lists, and being officially discharged from the hospital before it can happen.

At the moment, as I understand it, your options are literally (a) stay at the care facility, or (b) homelessness. In which case I really do think it's best to stay put, at least through the winter months. Maybe come Spring other options will be on the table, but for now, I think it's best to take it easy, and rest up a bit.

I've thought about how it feels to be homeless.

It's a very hard deal. Especially if you have bowel or bathroom issues in general. Restaurants just won't allow homeless people in their bathrooms. And if a person "makes" in the street, he/she would probably get a summons.

It's very uncomfortable. Cops always waking you up from a sound sleep to tell you to "move on." Sitting on the ground, rather than on a soft chair. Having to fend off crazy bullies.

No Sirree.....I can't see myself being homeless.

^ Why not? It builds character. Look me me. I've been homeless for years and I have LOTS of character!

^^^ It does give one "street cred." It also gives one perspective.

You're a very bright person. You can probably write something great about the experience. It'd be like classic literature, if done right.

In all seriousness, I admire a person who can "make a go of it." If I were forced to, I'd "make a go of it, too"---but it's not something I would choose to endure.

At least you have a car to live in. That's better than the hard ground. I wouldn't mind sleeping in a car, provided it's over 40 degrees or so.

I hope you are left alone, and allowed to live the way you live, because you're not bothering anybody.

I've actually thought about living in my car; but you can't do that in NYC.

...I have ballooned up 55 pounds in the last month or so, the water weight/CHF/apparently there's some liver explanation at it again. They asked me earlier if I wanted to go to the ER - I just felt so tired & cold & just wanted to lie in bed and not deal with packing things/the attendants/the cold ER, I didn't  .

It’s the Congestive Heart Failure, probably. It’s filling ASS-P’s body with fluid, and it’s making him ill.

They’ll probably give him a strong diuretic. It’s good he had constant access to a toilet.

I've also had times when I've had to sleep rough. More so as a child. It's not often you get a "sound sleep" in fact it's not ever. Even in the warmest of doorways you get a draft in the early hours of the morning.

I do feel for anyone who has to sleep rough, especially in the winter time. And I do know that sometimes the help you're offered isn't always the best and it is hard to take advice when your head is a mess and you can't think straight.

But Ass-P people here are well meaning and all they want for you is to keep warm and get as well as possible.

...I just want to have a room of my own :( . No it even a place, just a room, like I Had when I was 16/17.
Where I could be alone, and turn up the music and cry and bang when I'm sad. When I want to cry over the things I lost, and that were taken away-and that I never had  .
I have this dementia'd roommate here, who calls me " peckerwood " when I cough - a funny insult, he's as white as I am.
When I Was 17 (though there were bad thing), my life had possibilities :( .
Now I'm set to die without even having a Facebook picture of me - It's evil for me to ask for help, you see.

Glad you're back safely, ASS-P. Hope the meds adjustment helps, and you start feeling better soon!

I hear you about the privacy - I'd have a hard time in that situation as well. My cousin has been in and out of a care facility a lot this past year too, and I know it's been stressful for her.

It sucks to not be able to cry, too. I had to learn to cry quietly as a kid, because my parents found it unacceptable. But if you can learn to do it quietly, it can be a good emotional release.

Sorry about the Facebook picture... I think we tried to help with that issue a while back, but you don't have the tech necessary to upload it? It's perfectly reasonable to ask for advice, but if it's not something we're able to help you with over the internet, you need to accept our limitations.

In any case I'm glad you're back from the ER, and hope that tomorrow is a more restful day.

...I have had to go to incredible lengths to get this post up, my phone stalls and freezes incredibly, and I was unsure, as far as WwP goes, that I would get back here and be able to post at all :( .
I don't know whether I will have to spend my money on still another phone - which would be my fifth (at least) this year, the three stolen I've referred to then this one. As is, this one has worked less and less well as time has gone along, good functions in it suddenly going away  .
It's so cold in this room (and there's my coughing  and the dementia'd roommate yelling at me because of it), which has me feeling uncomfortably cold unless I have like four blankets over me, me not moving.umderneath them; zonking out. It feels like they aren't giving me enough puss pills to deal with the water weight, saying " It'll interfere with your sleep ". Well, I really need help with this excessive weight :( .
