On a thread which is now locked, I complimented jimmy_m for being a very nice person (emphasis in the original). It was not jimmy's thread, but I think that's beside the point. My complimentary post was deleted.
The moderator warned me because he/she thought I was being sarcastic towards jimmy. I said no, I really think he is one of the most helpful and sincere people we have in the forums. I was moved to compliment him because he is more compassionate than I am, and I admired that. The moderator said "well why did you put it in italics, then?"
The whole thing has blown over, but I did want my compliment to be recorded here, and I also wanted to point out that as much as we autistics are often noticed for not seeing when someone is being sarcastic, it's also possible that we may see sarcasm that wasn't really there, or not really ever intended.
I am pointing this out because I think we could all benefit by being aware of this mistake. Most of us have been ridiculed and bullied many, many times, which I think might make us oversensitive so we perceive ill intent where none is intended.
I'm sorry you were given an incorrect warning.
That said, posting in italics when being sarcastic is very common. You don't have to be aspie or bullied to think it's sarcasm.
I showed the text to a couple of NT relatives, and they all thought it was sarcasm.
