I bet they’re not delighted with some aspects of their country, either.
They usually can’t criticize their country like we can criticize ours. Especially a place like Vietnam.
No country who has been in any sort of war has a “great history.” The US included. It goes with the territory of war.
I know, they have all reminded me that their own countries have issues too.
It's not so much that I hate this country as much as it is that I can't stand the
people in this country. Every American I know is completely ethnocentric and wants to believe that they are surperior to everybody else (including people within their own country), and they like to believe that everything in this world, good or bad, is all related to them somehow and that every other country is either jealous of our "freedom" or they worship us and want to be exactly like us. You also have those condenscending Americans who feel that it's their obligation to "save other countries" by going in and criticizing the way other cultures do things and forcing them to become more like us.
And it's not even just the white people in this country who have this mentality There's plenty of ignorant African Americans with big inflated egos who look down people too.
American culture feels very narcissitic in my opinion. And what I really hate most is knowing that I'm just as as ignorant too. Like when I said before that I "felt pity" for people in third world countries. I thought I was meaning well but I didn't realize how very offensive that sounded, so I know I can be just as bad too.
