I'm very glad you're still with us, AA. I love our global fellowship here!

We all have a special role to play, and the freedom to agree or disagree respectfully.

Brother Enviro, I am glad I am still a part of this website and it's been an epic journey since
I became a member twelve years ago.

I'll admit this to everyone: Last week, I was granted summer employment by an environmental protection group and I will undergo an orientation session in June. In turn, you may not see me here on Wrong Planet as much as I want to and the idea of not posting as much here on WP scares me.

Hearing that there are few if any alternatives to WP and hearing that there used to be scores of active WP members with WP being a flurry of vibrant activity puzzles me as to where all of those people went to.

WP isn't a forum about some hobby or other special interest. It's a community of people that share the commonality of neurodiversity; a disorder that is lifelong and often results in difficulty understanding neurotypical people and being understood by neurotypical people. People here can relate to and understand each other better than they often can in "real life".

That's what puzzles me. Unless there were MORE vibrant forums that were autism specific, why would a person with autism who was a part of this just cease to be a part of what is truly a SUPPORT NETWORK? I can't understand that. This isn't a forum dedicated to collecting bottle caps where members might lose interest in collecting such things and just move on. It's a HUGE deal to me to have all of you here. I don't care if some of you rub me the wrong way or vice versa. Overall, WP has been one of the best things that has happened to me, since prior to discovering it, I thought I was alone in my experiences. To leave that and not continue to communicate and commiserate with anyone else who has autism......I don't get it. Seriously.

Seconded. I can't even imagine not having WP. I found it and joined for a reason, and there is no other way to fill that void.

I've only been here a few months so I don't know how WP used to be, but there are definitely good posters here. I think some forums get repetitive and people perhaps tire of the same discussions over and over again.

We do. Unfortunately, there are several topics that seem to be repeated over and over again.

* Liberals v. Conservatives
* "I can't get a date."
* "My family hates me!"
* "Am I autistic?"
* Misogyny (veiled or otherwise)
* Anxiety and doubt.
* "Is <fictional character> autistic?"
* "Was <historical person> autistic?"
* Various topics for or against Pres. Trump.

I wonder how many members were disillusioned by the server issues that plagued the site for ages until quite recently, not to mention the long-running Cloudflare/Captcha business that still manifests itself at times, and gave up as a result.

You forgot:

* I think my partner is autistic, because I think so

I also forgot the threads that start out with just a link, with no explanation or summary other than a few words in the subject line.

Well, there are other autism forums; I can think of at least 3 (none as good as this one). Then there are so very many Facebook groups. And there are in-person autism support groups, which offer a lot of things that an online one does not. This place is not unique; it is just "ours" so it seems unique.

WP is not as technologically-advanced as some others.

However, it is the most interesting, and has, by far, the most "freedom of expression." We also have the most accessible Mods. I've never been on a forum where the Mods are so accessible and transparent.

Try posting some of the stuff we post in "Aspergers and Autism Forum." Trust me....you would be moderated to death there!

Maybe that's a plus ... ? No flashing, flickering images or patterns to cause eyestrain and anxiety. Reminds me of the dial-up days.

Withing limits, of course. Even the Trump-bashers seem to know where the boundaries are.

Well, this is an "Aspergers & Autism" -themed website, after all. If this was an incel site or 4chan, the very idea of self-moderation would be shot down in flames.

Our mods rock. Hugs to all of you, near or far. Thank you for everything you do! :heart:

Nearly all the people I enjoyed talking to the most left about 10 years ago.

Also, any issue in L&D not related to incels is ignored. As for PPR, I felt rather intimidated by a lot of the things some people have posted.

Geography is another thing. Not very many people on WP in my area, and I tend to have the deepest connections to the Australian WP members.

I wish Ferris would come back.

He would be a great Mod, and would zap all the idiots on here Post Haste!

He knows how to deal with the "lunatic fringe."
