I Feel Lonely At The Moment.

Thank you for what you do in healthcare. My mother just retired after working as an RN in multiple fields for 40 years. She retired early due to COVID 19, and is looking forward to some well-earned R&R. I miss bartending [and the money], but I'm not willing to work that sort of job right now, it isn't my getting sick that I'm as worried about. But I'm still cooking, cleaning, shopping for her, and planning some light renovations on her house. It keeps me busy, which is way better than being laid up sick. Humanity has endured smallpox, German measles, yellow fever, malaria, Spanish Flu, and the Black Death... we'll get through this, but as in those other pandemics, most of the survivors will be those who had the means to stay safe and those who chose to be careful. I just shopped for and loaded up a month's supply of groceries earlier today while wearing an N95 the whole time. It's hot, sticky, and makes the bridge of my nose pretty sore... but it's easier to breathe in an N95 than it is with COVID from all of the survivors I've heard talk about it....

@MG please don't feel pressured that you have do something constructive with your time. Take it easy...just do small steps and give yourself attainable worthwhile goals, fixing your trains is a great step.
Totally, I wish I was half as good as you are with soldering, MG. I've joined your model railroad forum, I want the ideas and the inspiration! Can't wait to see what you come up with on your layout, hoping to hear from you again soon!

Uhmmm. Don't look too close at my soldering! Haha. It kind of works. It is a nice forum. I have been concentrating in getting fancy tools lately. They are not cheap but they are modular so I can buy parts at a time as I need them.

Yes. I am waiting for one to come from China. A cheap basic one which will come in handy. They remind me of Lego. Haha.

Was that you soldering the cowcatcher? LEGO blocks as tools. , what is next .
But think LEGO blocks can provide simple distractions. Stay distracted from lonilyness

And...guess what....I'm almost 60. I feel like I've earned the right "not to be constructive."
Do you still feel lonely, Original Poster? I feel lonely sometimes. It's not a nice feeling.
Varies. I am ok.

It wasn't me soldering the cow catcher.

If I were lonely and had the Cliffs of Wales as a backdrop, I’d probably probably just enjoy the scenery and forget about people.
It took me a while and quite a bit of determination before I started to use the soldering iron! It is not essential, but it makes things a lot easier and opens up a whole new realm of possibilities!

Like others here have earned the right to relax alittle more often but circumstances have not allowed and can echo the sentiments of lonilyness once in a while but do keep distracted with things in life . That related to functional hobbies of sorts . Survival by itself can almost be considered a hobbie too .

MG, I think the thing about your Dad was that he was friendly but also genuine and willing to be slightly vulnerable. People are generally more willing to trust someone in paint-splattered overalls because they're not exhibiting any pretense or hiding anything. Turn up in a suit and tie, you're obviously selling something, and you probably think you're important. That's how a lot of people think.
People with AS seem to me to be very afraid of embarassment. We're not good at seeming down-to-earth, and we're often defensive and hesitant and prone to over-thinking. So we don't naturally tend to exhibit weakness in a take-it-or-leave-it, this-is-who-I-am kind of way. It's easier for NTs to warm to people who are most obviously like them. Being a working man in need of a favour is easy to identify with.
I'm not sure I'm explaining this very well...

I rarely wear a suit. I don't think I have one that fits me. I dress for comfort.
Oh. I very much overthink sometimes. Also am quite prone to be afraid of embarissment. I do laugh it off to divert attention, but only to avoid further embarissment!
