Tim,
Sorry for the late response - different time zone etc..
Oh, I can understand how the woman would affect you because it takes a lot of courage to ask someone out but takes not much to knock someone back.
Did she give you a reason - hopefully it's just her being involved with someone else.
It that's it, then you don't have to feel bad, after all, it's difficult to research whether someone is available before you ask.
If she gave you another reason, then that's much harder - particularly if you take it personally. Some people can be especially cowardly and cruel.
....
What's the problem with structural geology - you're good at Geology right? and you like the subject material - is it the class, lecturer, workload etc?
If it's not the teacher/lecturer that's the problem, you can often visit them in their rooms - the best ones are usually quite happy to discuss the work.
No, she said that she wasn't in the right position to be with anyone and may not be for quite a while, and even if she were, she couldn't do anything long-distance (we're 300 miles away from each other).
As for my class, it's a combination of the course content, and the professor. He does not do a very good job at explaining anything (I had a similar issue with a chemistry professor last semester). Calculus, on the other hand, is a subject where I am doing very well, and in fact, I almost have an A.
