Sorry for the long absense, but I'm in the hospital for a Crohn's flare-up, so I was unable to see how my little poll is going.

I'll be back in a day or two...

sorry to hear about your flareup.

I hope the duration is short and you can get back home soon. :(

Hey all, I'm back from the hospital, and on a careful regiment of pills until my follow-up X-rays...

Well, now that I've had 5 days to think about all that's happened, and this is kinda embarrassing...

Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on my dad....

You see, yesterday afternoon, after I'd been discharged, Mom, Dad and I went to a little cafe to have a light lunch...and yes, even though I was ready to order, but he reminded me to do so anyway...I surprisingly didn't get mad. Maybe because I was so happy to get away from that roommate from Hell :P

But then, when we were about 2/3rds of the way through lunch...a song came on the radio in the dining room area..."The Last Song", by Elton John. Here's a video of it...

By the end of it...I was almost tearing up in the restaurant, but couldn't because we were in public...I really would rather think that I got teared-up because of just the prettiness of the song, and not it's message, but that would be a lie.

And on a humorous note, something someone said here before, I slipped into a conversation there. I was telling my folks how ridiculous they'd be 10 years from now with their silly arguments, and dad said "I don't think I'll be around that long". To which I said, 'Nah, you'll probably live 'til you're 80, *just* to spite me!", and we all laughed about that. ^_^

*shrugs* see you around...hope you like the song...

Maybe so, but it will lift a TREMENDOUS weight off my chest. As I said to someone else here, you don't know my father, sir. If anything, he thinks that just because he's getting up there in years, he has license to be immature and childish.

I reserve forgiveness for people who DESERVE forgiveness. If my father had realized from the start that I was born a f**k up, he'd have thunk twice about giving me disciplinary slaps to the face as a kid. I'm my mind, he *enjoyed* it.

Although, I did do something back when I was 11 that I'm still proud of, in one aspect. That night happened to be my birthday, but even that didn't stop him from spoiling my evening by giving me a hard slap over something I don't remember doing. But I hit back hard, in another way. Later that same night, when he went up to apologize...

I told him, *right to his face*, that I hated his guts, and I would continue hating him until the day he died.

The hurt on his face...was so exquisite; then I calmly laid down for bed and bade him goodnight, waiting for him to show himself to the door. He did... :P

Well, that at least explains where this spite originates at least. I made that promise to myself 24 years ago, and it's still the oldest promise I've kept faithfully.

As far as I'm concerned, forgiveness is for church.

You are a jerk.

*nods and bows* Thank you sir, and I'm ding-dong PROUD OF IT!!

Well jeeze, yeah that might not be so nice but there are definately worse things!
I mean.. my mom used to scream at me and hit me anytime I disagreed with her and called me a b***h and said that I was a bad person and deserved to die.

I hated her sometimes for sure. But I never wanted to kill her. I'm not at all judging you. I'm just saying things could be worse you know?

I think you should take a deep breath and try to relax and put things in perspective. So what if your father thinks you're a theif? How does that affect your life really?

Usagi, those who say families have unconditional love are those who must have had very happy lives. I understand what you mean, and you are not a bad person. I have a similar relationship with my mother, yet nobody seems to understand.

And for the record, the condiments in restaurants and hotels are factored into the price, you're only taking what the restaurant/hotel owes you. I learnt this from my dad.

How does that affect my life? *eye twitches* ...

Well, my father's, in fact, BOTH of my parents' opinion of me is EVERYTHING TO ME! If they're even unsatisfied with one tiny little detail or wrongdoing I've done, I feel it tarnishes all the good points about me. Even the mistakes I made when I was 6 years old, I think they still cling onto...

'Unconditional love?' What a crock of s**t. But rest assured, I will not do him any harm, as I stated before...but that doesn't stop me from wishing and hoping something horrible will happen to him. As long as my lungs draw breath, I will continue to curse his name.

After all, to break a man's spirit, is to TRULY destroy him!!

Usagi... why do your parents' opinions matter so much to you? And what about applying that concept of unconditional love to yourself as well? I'm sorry for your hurt, and can understand the anger - admittedly but not proudly, there is an appreciation in me for what my step-father experienced and endured before he passed - but such things don't serve you, and only hurt you over time. Why continue to give it life?

I...you're right...

Why am I still adding fuel to this fire of a bad memory? I made this thread almost a year ago...I didn't think I'd be adding to it still, out of pettiness.

I think American History X put it best when it was said at the end, 'Hate is baggage'...and maybe there's truth in that.

The reason why their opinions of me is so important, is that I'm so afraid of losing their love if I do something bad. And as for your second question...I'm 36 years old, and I STILL haven't learned to love myself. As far as I'm concerned, what is there about me to love? I'm an Aspergian f***-up of a human being, with so many quirks and eccentricities. :(

I promise, I'll not add to this thread anymore...I'm sorry if I've upset people with this...

Please - I'm not upset in the least. I just question why you continue to hurt yourself by holding yourself to their standards, which you've already realized that you can never meet and they will find fault in you each time. You're a pretty keen individual - if you weren't, you wouldn't be capable of the insights you've shown along the way. My intent was to have you ask yourself whose life you wanted to lead, and who made those decisions? Ultimately, I believe that is up to you - time to focus on the future instead of the past. Keep talking, keep evolving... this is a good path.
