That's such a Lovely Hug! Mmmmmmm

I'm glad you're better, and they found the cause for your illusions.

Hi again. I am also happy to hear that you are back home from the hospital again. I was thinking about you a lot while you were gone, and I was hoping that you were getting better. It is strange that your doctor gave you medications which were making you feel even worse than you were previously feeling. The same thing happened to me when I was taking Abilify.

I am still hoping that you will soon find a new job & your own place to live. It will make you feel a lot better about yourself.

By the way, what happened to Merlin while you were at the hospital? Did you miss him?

Anyway, I am glad you are back. 300 big hugs.

Yeah, and when I explained the problem that I was having, my psychologist increased the dosage of the medication that turned out to be causing it, which I suspected was the culprit from the start. It would probably have helped if he'd spent more than fifteen minutes with me

Yes, getting a job I can support myself on and a place of my own to live will definitely help a lot with my depression and stuff.

My parents took care of Merlin while I was gone and were able to bring him in for the hour and a half that they were allowed to visit me each day, although I did still miss him. We were both very happy to see each other every time, especially when I got to go home with him.

I am so pleased you found out what the problem was. It's certainly a super crappy side effect! I hope you don't mind me asking if you were on any other meds? I wonder if it could have been an interaction. I have an interest in pharmacology and abilify interacts with a lot of other drugs.

Are you still seeing that doctor any more, or have you found a better doctor instead? The same thing could have happened to me; I could have felt a lot better & quicker if the doctor I saw got to know me & spent more that 3 minutes with me, and just give me pills & nothing else.

I have never been hospitalised for depression, so I do not know what it is like, but I do not think I would like it. I would hate being cross-examined all the time, and I would especially hate the lack of privacy. I do not let any one see me without clothes, and I detest public washrooms. I hope everything was at least acceptable for you while you were there.

I hope your new coping skills are helpful & make you feel better. Well done on getting thru a tough hospital stay!

Big hugs.

I was also taking sertraline, trazodone, propranalol, Singulair, Zyrtec, and melatonin. It's entirely possible that the Abilify could have interacted in a bad way with at least one of those.

I'm going to see the same psychiatrist again a week from tomorrow. If things don't go better then, I'll talk to my mom about maybe finding someone else.

I actually was pleasantly surprised by the amount of privacy I got in the hospital. They did have to check my entire body when I first arrived, but it was only for a few seconds. I still hated it, though, because I too am extremely self-conscious and don't let anyone see me naked. But I did get my own room with my own bathroom, complete with shower, attached. It was annoying to have people peeking into my room every so often, but I could time things well so no one saw me without clothes on except during that initial inspection. Overall I didn't find my stay too horrible. It was more boring than anything else.

I hope that doctor actually helps you during your next appointment instead of just giving you prescription pills which make you feel even worse; at least you are giving the doctor a chance to help you.

I am glad that your hospital visit has better than you expected. I hate hospitals & doctors' offices, and I hope I never have to return to one of them. I am also happy that the hospital staff respected your privacy, and that they gave you your own hospital room with your own washroom. Just like you, I am extremely self-conscious & never let any one see me naked or use the bathroom. I would also hate people interrupting me & checking on me, but I sort of understand that it is done for my safety.

I am glad that it was just boring & not extremely painful, but I still hope you never have to go back to the hospital.

300 big hugs.

I thought I was doing really well, but now everything is reminding me of having the horrible images, and of feeling suicidal, almost like I do want to die again. Now I'm wondering if maybe I wasn't actually ready to go home yet :(

The images are back? Maybe that might be a side effect when you stop taking Abilify. I wonder why the doctors didn't advise you to stay a little longer? Effects of medicine usually don't disappear that fast and then there is also withdrawal and it's side effects.

Is there anything in common with the objects that remind you of the images and feeling suicidal?

Yes, it really sh#ts me that Dr's hand out pills without considering the potential interactions. Polypharmacy is so dangerous. I'm suspecting the setraline.
"Sertraline: May enhance the adverse/toxic effect of ARIPiprazole(Abilify). Sertraline may increase the serum concentration of ARIPiprazole.
and then there's this,
"Abilify has been associated with compulsive behaviors and/or loss of impulse control. Patients with prior history of impulse control issues may be at increased risk. Dose reduction or discontinuation of therapy has been reported to reverse these behaviors." so it sounds like a poor choice of drug for you in the first place and if the sertraline caused an increase in serum levels, the side effects will be worse. Sometimes I wonder how these Dr's graduated
I hope they didn't just abruptly stop your meds and send you home. You will probably go through withdrawal. Hang in there. It does pass. If you feel it's getting bad, can you go back to the hospital? Take care, I shall be thinking of you.

I'm not actually getting the images again, really, although it feels scarily similar to when they were starting. I think I'm just remembering them from before. I think it's just being in the same environment as when the images were really bad that's causing it.

At my request they did abruptly stop the Abilify, although I'm still on everything else. They kept me for two more days after that, and I seemed to be doing very well - heck, I'd quite possibly still think I was doing very well and ready to go home if I was at the hospital instead of at home with things bringing back bad memories. I'm sure I can go back to the hospital if things are getting really bad again, but I don't think I'm at the point where I really need re-admission - I'm just thinking a few more days might have been beneficial.

Perhaps a hug from Merlin might take some of the edge off.

Merlin cuddles did help a little. It's cloudy here, and chilly.

Maybe being in a different location might help. Have a uncle or aunt you could stay with, maybe a cousin or something?

No one nearby. My mom suggested switching my bedroom and the guest bedroom, which might help. Things are usually worse at night for me, and I spend a good portion of the day in my room, too. I might try sleeping in the guest room for a few nights as kind of a trial run, to see if it helps to be in a different room.
