would you read a person's diaries post-suicide?

It would depend on the person. For the most part I would say yes, because I normally like to have a complete perspective, and because several months ago when I was feeling suicidal I had intended to leave my journal out if I ever decided to go through with it. I feel as though if a person commits suicide, that person's family (assuming they were close to theirs) would have a lot questions they would have wanted to ask that person, and that person's journal would be the closest thing they have to answers. I don't believe suicide to be an extremely selfish act, but I think if a person is going to take their own life knowing it will leave behind people who are hurt, then that person should at least try to leave behind as extensive an explanation as possible, as I don't think a simple note would be enough.
okay, that made me cry, because i think that was a big reason why my mother didn't destroy the diaries. she was never understood and never felt connected to people, and i think she wanted her family to understand a little bit. so i think a part of me wants to honour that and try to really know what was happening in her head. but i think i am not stable or strong enough yet, maybe not for years.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you cry

no, don't feel bad - crying when i read that was a good thing as it happened because i realized some things of importance. most of the time i am sort of logical and can discuss this stuff a little logically, but when something rings true on an emotional level it is reaching deeper and touching a nerve. so it was truly quite helpful that you pushed me over the edge. it was some hard stuff that you shared and it helped me to see it from the other side.

I lost my sister to suicide. I don't know if I would be able to read her diary had I the chance. I voted yes though.
Wish you well.
