I've taken a little break from this forum so I didn't notice this thread until now.

So sorry to hear you're having to go through all this. I'm so relieved though to hear they know what it is and that they think you will be able to recover. What a nail bitter!

I have an old childhood friend who contracted some kind of parasite several years back. The parasite has been gone for years but he has chronic unexplained pain in his abdomen that renders him unable to do much of anything. He can't stand taking narcotics so he pretty much just puts up with being in pain 24/7. He has some good days and some bad days. The condition really hasn't gotten any worse but it hasn't exactly gotten much better over time either. He long since lost his job and and health insurance aside from medicaid.

Anyways, I'm so glad you at least have insurance and are getting quality treatment. I wish you the best of luck. I've always loved your commentary in the PPR forum but I kinda have to cut back on that as it just gets too depressing and maddening for me.

^^^ Heh... I know exactly what you mean about PPR. It has definitely gotten me too wound-up on more than one occasion.

I really feel for your friend. I think that until you have experienced it yourself, you just can't understand how debilitating chronic pain can be. I'm thankful that mine is usually minor and controllable right now.

I have SOME legs! I have SOME legs!

They have been trying to "walk" me in this big cumbersome blue thing all week, to little effect...

But today my therapist said, "lets see if you can do some arm flexes standing in place with a walker (the kind little, old ladies use)."

I stood up from the wheel chair, grabbed the walker and WALKED ABOUT 250 FEET!! !! !! !! !! !!

WooHOO!! !

It was hard and tiring but it was much better than being in a wheelchair!

:D

All the doctors/therapists have been over estimating the weakness in my legs...

My legs are not that weak. They're just numb, and very, very CLUMSY right now... :?

try to exercise your legs/lower body in time to music. that is a proven PT methodology used by occupational therapists.

Very glad for you, keep on focusing on your recovery and maintain your positive attitude and you'll amaze the doctors and get over this.

I'm glad to hear you're recovering.

As for my friend, it seems like he doesn't really have a choice but to accept his condition. He has a wife and three children and support from family members. It just seems so maddening that here we are in the 21st century and they could not figure out what is wrong. At least not without paying $$$$$$ nobody has.

Thinking of you, GoodSquad. I guess the hardest part is not knowing and dealing with the uncertainty of your own health and well-being. Hang in there. All the best. I cannot imagine how terribly hard, and painful, this is for you now. But whatever it is, you can deal with it, I know. I'm sending you a virtual bouquet of get-well-soon flowers.......Oh look, the delivery guy is coming right now!

Yeah, that really sucks.

Has your friend considered reaching out to a University Medical School?

For many schools, part of their mandate is taking on cases like that.

@LabPet,

Thanks for the flowers!

The good thing is that you'll soon be home. Even if full mobility isn't achieved yet, it will be great! And you can see Muggs again!

The hospital grounds look pretty cold judging from the pic you posted in images of the day thread... especially since it's summer where I am...
