I am more than willing to travel to meet someone. *They* are the ones that turn *me* down due to location.

I try Aspie Affection, but correspondences last maybe a few days--and this is with me making the first move.

I hate to hear that you're having such a hard time, Tim. Hope you don't decide to leave for good. It was your welcome to the forum that helped me decide to stay and check this place out further.

Like I tell my son all the time - it's always going to be hard for aspies to meet the 'right' people. He likes girls, but he's so painfully shy that he avoids them like the plague. Aspies usually bond well with other aspies, but then the problem becomes lack of communication, something we're all notorious for, I suppose. I went through a LOT of failed relationships before I met my current husband, when I was almost 30. He's the complete polar opposite of me - a Type 'A' personality NT - but he's a good person. An outgoing person can be controlling, though, but you have to remain assertive and set boundaries. If the other person can't accept that and respect your right to be who you are, it's time to let them go. Don't give up on people. Sooner or later you will meet the right person for you. One thing I can tell you (after two failed marriages on my part) is that you can't give up hope. There's somebody for everybody, even if that person turns out to be a non-Aspie.

Best wishes,

Jillian

You're one of the more significant members in my opinion. And you've always been a regular member of the welcoming committee.
You'll be missed, however, don't feel that by being on Wrongplanet you are under any obligations to be a role model or do something big.

Tim I will bet you have been far more helpful than you realize. Have you considered that dating network on Yahoo? It doesn't necessarily have to be someone who is an Aspie. Have you considered someone who is NT with Aspie features or someone who is NT but not mainstream? They are probably not as far apart from Aspies as you may think.

Also, check out www.plentyoffish.com . It free, and you can do keyword searches like geek and sci-fi.

Mark, he's still here!

What's to worry about it?

I know, but I'm not exactly sure what Mark was thinking!

Alright, I admit it, I barely glanced at the last page of posts (I have odd surfing habits due to dodgy dial-up)... Seems the thread took a U-turn in what I missed :D

Sounds to me like:
1) You bummed about missing out on something potentially nice. Definitly an excuse to take a break from being the front man around here,
2) You have, in fact, made at least one friend, even if it didn't work out.
3) You need to be talking to her about things, and try to find a comprimise that you can both live with, at least until one of you is done with school. And a woman who says she "can't" do something, even for AS, doesn't always mean "can't". But I don't know anything about it, sooo....

Advice from a stranger :)

I would like her to be able to reach a compromise.

How long have you known this person Tim?

If she does not want a romantic relationship, get over her ASAP!

Almost a year. And she is the only female Aspie who has the same interests as me, and is also a Christian.
