Sly, take things into perspective, when you look at our vast universe, you will realize that your problems are not as big as you think.

P.S I am a cosmologist with a love and hate relationship with the field. It makes me depressed very much.

I say this as a Sly-sympathizer.

The trouble is there isn't a lot of useful advice people can give on the internet. People don't know him well enough to know what he has or hasn't tried.

It's really quite simple though. He will continue to post the same issues as long as he hasn't found a SO. He is obsessed with finding someone and upset that he can't. He's extremely frustrated. There isn't a simple fix to this. He might not find anyone anytime soon.

Many things in life are like climbing a mountain blindfolded. You have no idea if you're anywhere near the top. You don't even know if you're making any progress at all, or if you'll be trudging uphill forever. For some of us finding a partner involves a lot of chance. A hundred rejections is normal.

Talking about his defective character. Telling him he's an awful monster for being so frustrated. That just doesn't help anything. That's all I hear people saying. He needs to talk to an actual psychologist or counselor that knows techniques that actually work. Most of what people on here say is useless. I know for a fact that it wouldn't help me. It is somewhat of an aspie thing to be obsessive and frustrated when you can't get something you really want. It is destructive, but it isn't a simple thing to deal with.

I don't think Sly has a "defective' character.

I feel like he feels hemmed in because he feels Obama "wants to take my guns away."

He feels Obama's a liberal--so, by extension, liberals "want to take my guns away."

This might be at the crux of his frustration--in addition to his frustrations at not being able to find a girl.

Yes, he does need formal therapy. But he also needs to meet more people in his area, rather than rely on the Internet so much.

I don't believe that Sly's opinions are limited to simply owning guns. Like myself, he sees the Second Amendment an integral part of the Bill of Rights, and, by extension the Constitution. Knock over that domino, and watch all its natural rights dissolve.

You did describe it well--the domino effect.

It's possible one thing could lead to many other things. In an exponential sense.

There is no doubt that sly's conservative views on certain issues has put him on the radar of certain posters as well, I notice these same people and he may not be able to articulate these views well enough to do rhetorical battle with these people as most aren't. This cabal of posters does not particularly like debate but they definitely hold grudges, most of them aren't articulate enough or have the stamina to argue them with me. I always like how I'll make these large posts in the middle of one of these threads only for people to completely ignore it and to continue bickering over nonsense. Some people take the discussion of politics way too seriously, I do it for fun because I find it stimulating and it's special interest of mine but I am not so delusional to think I am on the floor of United States congress and that any of this matters. I get along just fine with a lot of the more left wing posters, I think we agree on more things than they would probably be comfortable to admit. It's not something I take personally, my favorite posters here are probably ones that disagree with me the most that at least respect differences in opinion without projecting hate towards each other. We all have more in common than we do apart, we really should be able to have civil discussions. Anyone that feels any hostility from me should know I mirrored what you give to me, I don't like to argue like that because its not persuasive and you always attract more flies with honey than you do vinegar. The people that are respectful with me I consider their opinions and I do feel my views have been influenced by well thought out civil debate.

I would love to hear your views in a debate with politics. AS or NT. Never can find some in real life outside of family and friends. The moment it is starting to sound highly ignorant and go left field I think it would be the case of agreeing to disagree.

PPR can be quite lively especially here in an election year, some people consider it a bit too rough and tumble but I think it's fun which is why post there. I'd say it's a much better subforum than say L&D which really brings out the worst in the board unfortunately,,relationships obviously something a lot of us struggle with. I wish more of the older PPR posters came back, it was funner with more people that actually test your views. I think people would be surprised with the posters I got along with the best on a quasi-personal level.

I'm sure we probably would disagree on a lot of things but I'm an open-minded person and hear people out who give the same courtesy to me. Perhaps you can have a unique insight into my worldview considering we came from the same place. Enough of this I don't want to derail the thread and make it about me, sometimes its hard not to do that.

Most likely. And I don't want people to be scared of me or think I'm a PoS. I probably am. I really felt haven't been able to express or show a good side of me. I know I am a huge lolcow for everyone on here. I probably am a angry Aspie. I struggle heavily with patience with Aspies if anything. Most of my friends are NT's in real life. So to have a person with AS trying to be friends in real life with me, is scarier to deal with a Aspie since I'm wasn't near any one who have AS or anything related before.

Who said anything about a conspiracy? Sly just got on the wrong side of the same collection of bitter and perpetually aggrieved posters who show up every time there's discussion of barring men from the Woman's forum or that elusive sexism in L&D, who make no secret of their willingness to use the mods to enforce their views, and who have a sympathetic ear on the mod team. No need for collusion, those people generate enough noise individually to create the impression that something is more of a problem than it is, and Sly's is the name that comes up the most in those threads.

I think haven is maybe not the best place for us to be debating these views. Perhaps we should accept what's been done and now move on with a more positive attitude instead of fighting amoungst ourselves. This includes sly when he comes back.

We all know that's aspies are highly opinionated and that can cause issues sometimes.

Most of us have experienced prejudice, hatefulness or misunderstanding because of our autism. Having this in common we should try to support each other and understand each others views in stead of turning on each other. After all we expect or hope that NTs try to understand our viewpoints.

Absolutely perfect post !

It depends on my mood.

Sometimes, I like sharp cheddar cheese.

Other times, I like mild Norwegian cheese.

No, he's upset about a specific policy change that would bar people who collect SSI and have a designated payee from firearms ownership, where as previously you actually would have had to be involuntarily committed or otherwise adjudicated mentally incompetent. One particular member was a real jackass to him over that in PPR, riled him into melting down and then claimed that "proved" he wasn't fit to own guns.

Does he even have a payee? If so, then I can see why he is upset or else I don't understand the big fuss about it if he doesn't even have a payee. Also I couldn't understand why he couldn't just ignore that user. Just leave them with their opinion.
