I'm amazed I remember this, but I've read The JW "Revelation, its grand climax" book.

The whore is religion. She rides on all the kingdom's of the world represented by the many headed beast.

The beast creates an image and breaths life into it. That's meant to be the UN because it was created by kingdoms/governments/rulers, but it's just an image or replica, not an actual kingdom. That's why its called "the image of the wild beast".

I knew I had it a bit mixed up, I found all the metaphors and symbolism really confusing tbh.

Long story, I have a parent who is a bit obsessed with Revelation. It scared the life out of them back in the 80s when people were terrified of a nuclear war between America and Russia. They thought they might find the key in Revelation.

They were really pleased to find no nuclear war in Revelation. Just kings and religion arguing. Hmm, so what's new.

I know there's a lot more to Revelation, but the kings turning on religion is the thing that always stood out to me.

I don't think you have to be religous or believe in the bible to know that the world is eventually going to end. I mean why wouldn't it end? We have so many things going against us that will one day destroy all traces of life on this miserable little planet.

If nothing else the sun will one day expand and swallow up the planets that are closest to it, including Earth.

Yeah, but the sun isn't going to explode anytime soon.

I'd say maybe focus on reading stories about people doing good things. There are people out there who care about the environment. There are people helping others.

I read a news story about a woman who hires a hall in London and puts up posters to invite people who are lonely to a free Christmas lunch. She's been doing it for a few years now. It started off as just lunch at her house, but as word spread more and more people turned up and she had to hire a hall.

There are still good things happening.

And here's a story about a woman who rescued a baby armadillo.

The OP was primarily speaking in an American context. He’s an American. He is lamenting what’s happening in the world but, yes, from a US-centric stance.

I was using US history to make my point about the times being much worse in the 1930s.

It wasn’t nice for many people living under Communism in Eastern Europe. Some found it okay because of relative job security. But most didn’t like waiting on bread lines and shopping in supermarkets with bare shelves—While there were places with better-quality items from which they were banned.

Yeah, I mean it's not like I can see things from a European standpoint. I'm obviously not European.

I am one who is not "US-centric." I lament the fact that there is very little world coverage except via international news agencies.

I would enjoy hearing more news from around the world. And I enjoy meeting people from around the world, too.

I don't consider myself to be US-centric either. I love meeting people from other countries and learning about other cultures. However I am a US citizen. I've never even travelled outside of the country and I'll never be able to move to anyplace else so that means I'm pretty much stuck here. If WW3 does happen of course I'm going to be more concerned about how it will effect my own country because I live here and my family lives here too.

And I've never trusted American news even before people found out about the fake news crap. American media is just one big biased propaganda machine.

Neither Americocentric or Eurocentric here as I don't live in those parts.
