...Literally I guess there's heating, etcetera - I suppose I'm not going to freeze to death or anything - but I do feel cold :( .

Perhaps I ciuld eat in the common room if I pushed to - However, I did, for a long time, want to stay off of my feet in order to let them heal, and I am taking that - Though it gets too cold in this room, and generally somewhat gloomy, and the dementia'd roomate.
I get a little afraid that I might be stuck here forever. I don't want to be. I think this is the longer-term wing. I don't suppose I could have staying here forever paid anyway. I have another roommate other than the dementia'd one, I have no trouble with him.. From something I heard about him seems to indicate he's considered schizophrenic and the thought is to bring him back there; so perhaps we are both considered more serious, but not meant to be here forever; cases.
It's 6:05 A M. and it really is cold here! It's I eternal coldness shivedinv I-ve shown that some - in oart; I guess :( .

Yeah it sucks being housebound and even room bound. Sometimes I'm so immobile they make me stand up from my chair and hobble around my room a little so I don't get blood clots.

Doesn't that place have any heating?[/quote]

poor circulation [associated with diabetic neuropathy] can cause one to feel cold all the time, that was my dad's situation as he had late-stage diabetes. that is why they want you to get up and move, to keep the circulation going.

...No, Ezra, I do slurp up extra blankets, I have 3?? 4?? over me now and an " under me " 1?? as well now. I rather want to get my upper side under it and be warm-er, actually.
AB, they don't at all particularly encourage me to get up and walk around here, I'd say they pretty much encourage me staying in bed, they seem a bit understaffed/ the staff overworked.
I'm sorry about your condition, Ezra.

Sorry it's so cold there. My mom has the same problem with not being able to get warm with just blankets. You'd think a medical facility of all places would understand that concept? It's saddening to realize they don't, and how severely underfunded and understaffed these places are.

Ezra, that sounds rough as well. I think a lot of us have health issues here... I'm 99% housebound as well (due to Lyme disease, among other things) - and can only walk about half a block before the pain becomes intolerable. So we hear you on that, ASS-P! Sorry about the shoe situation, but it sounds like you really need to be resting for the moment. :(

I do hope things get better in the new year though. If nothing else, it should start warming up soon!

Absolutely... I have deep respect for people who manage to survive that life, because I sure couldn't.

It's getting me down lately, to see how desperate the situation is, for so many people with mental health issues. I wish I could do more to help, aside from donating what little I can afford, here and there. I hope one day we can turn things around, and provide better support to people who are unable to function in today's society.

...There is now a " Do Not Open Doors And Windows To Maintan The Buiding Heat " sign posted in my room, presumably elsewhere, perhaps it came to the staff-s attention...Having resides here for twenty years or so, I think I can say that coastal central and northern Cali have a tendency to be a touch colder than you think they're going to be :x ! People have this " swingin' at the beach " image based on movie concepts of SOUTHERN Calufornia.. .

Santa Cruz is not as cool as SF in the summer, nor as mild as SF in the winter. It hardly ever gets to freezing in Santa Cruz (even less often in SF).

The climate in that area is actually nice----especially if you live some distance from the Bay and the Ocean.
