What is it that bar-hoppers do that’s “fun”?

I guess they have fun by being silly when they’re drunk. But when they wake up next day……not ideal for someone like Jo.

It doesn't matter. Joe's young and so is FXE. When you're young you don't think of the morning after when all you want to do is join in the fun on the night before.

I seem to remember feeling that way although it does seem to be another lifetime ago.

Read about what happens to that JamesY guy in bars.

Aspie guys in bars frequently become the target of bitter bar patrons who have nothing better to do.

Aspie women (and NT women) who are drunk can easily become attracted to some bar guy, let the bar guy lead her to her flat, then wake up not knowing why she is in that guy’s flat.

Joe said she isn't talking about getting drunk. She has a profound fear of vomiting so I'm sure she'll know her limits. She's not going to go home with any strangers either.

She's only considering having a glass of wine or a few sips of something on the very rare occasion when she's out with her own family and her boyfriend, so she can relax a bit. It wouldn't be all the time. She wouldn't be day drinking. She wouldn't be falling on the floor drunk, or putting her safety at risk.

She's very self-conscious in public and having a sip of wine now and then might help her nerves. Being self-conscious will also keep her from having too much, acting stupid in public, or being irresponsible.

I don't think scare mongering is any way to support someone who already suffers with anxiety.

Jamesy goes out on his own and he is definitely a target. Joe is talking about going out occasionally and having a sociable drink with family and friends.

Jamessy frequently goes out to pubs but doesn't seem to deal with it properly and gets confused by social gestures and stuff.

I like socialising, I don't generally break social boundaries and I know what to do and all that. It's just it doesn't take long before I start getting bored, especially when there's a lot of people I don't know or the place starts getting so noisy that I can't hear people when they talk to me (my hearing isn't too good even if I can filter out background noise). I want to have a few drinks for the same reasons a lot of neurotypicals drink. I know that if alcohol wasn't served in pubs and bars any more a lot of NTs wouldn't bother going out, or if they did they wouldn't stay long, maybe only the really extroverted chatterboxes might.

Being 100% sober in a bar can make me feel like a fish out of water. Also NTs love drunkenness... although they whine when some drunk person spoils their night out. But they still looooove drinking. I'm not interested in drinking otherwise. I'm not going to start drinking at home. My boyfriend keeps a lot of beers in the fridge but I've never wanted to have one. Like Isabella Linton said, I am only interested in trying a few drinks to relax myself when socialising in a bar with other people.

Believe it or not, I've heard NTs say they wouldn't go out if they didn't drink.

I still feel it’s the wrong reason to drink.

Nothing wrong with a drink at a restaurant or something.

I’m not trying to “scaremonger” anybody. I’m not a creep like that.

I used to go out a lot and drink sodas. I’m a crazy nut, anyway. I doubt anybody WANTED me to drink :jester:

Yes, my mum's untimely passing away last month. Something I never thought would happen.

I know the feeling. My grandfather remained in good health and fitness well past his retirement. He had a very active life even in his 80s. I thought he would live forever. He didn't. Sorry for making this about me.

Nothing wrong with sharing that, Retro.

I just don’t believe in “drinking to be sociable.”

That’s the way I feel.

No, thank you for sharing that. It is natural to think your loved ones will live forever. I always thought my mum would live at least until she's 100. When I worked at a care home most of the oldest residents (in their 90s and 100s) all seemed to have birthdays in the autumn months (fall). My mum's birthday is in the fall too, and I always thought there might have been a correlation of people born in the fall living beyond their 80s. But it was probably just a coincidence.

Kraftiekortie you're not trying to scaremonger. You're just being rational.

I actually don't like the thought of putting any toxins into my body whether it be alcohol, drugs or anything else, whether it be social or not. But this isn't about me.

My daughter (about Joe's age) drinks socially and I worry about her when she's out but she's an adult and the best I can do is to make sure she is informed to best if my knowledge and that's all I'm trying to do for Joe.

Also it makes no difference to me KK if you are T total or not. The thought never even occurred to me. Its good that she's hearing opinions from all sides anyway.

Me too. I don't drink, cause i feel like i've been poisoned the next day. Plus it kills neurons, damages liver, and just generally messes your health up over time. Drink is good for killing inhibitions though.
