I hate being told that the way I feel is wrong and ridiculous. Instead of saying that, why don't they ask me why I feel that way or offer to help me figure out why I feel that way, and say that everybody's feelings are legitimate, even the wierd hard-to-understand ones, because they are produced by difficult and/or uncommon and/or hard-to-understand situations that happened to me that are no more my fault than commoner, easier-to-understand situations are.

We look ridiculous to NTs eyes the same way they look ridiculous to our eyes. A good laughter and indifference are the best medicine.

I will light the match this mornin, so I wont be alone
Watch
as she lies silent, for soon night will be gone
Oh, I will stand arms outstretched, pretend Im free to roam
Oh, I will make my way, through, one more day in hell...
How much difference does it make
How much difference does it make, yeah...

I will hold the candle till it burns up my arm
Oh, Ill keep takin punches until their will grows tired
Oh, I will stare the sun down until my eyes go blind hey,
I wont change direction, and I wont change my mind
How much difference does it make
Mmm, how much difference does it make...how much difference...

Ill swallow poison, until I grow immune
I will scream my lungs out till it fills this room
How much difference (2x)
How much difference does it make (2x)

Studies on emotional abuse call this 'invalidation' - i.e., the other person not simply stating, "Well, personally, I disagree with you," but telling you that your views and feelings are WRONG, period, that they're 'stupid', 'crazy', that, 'nobody else thinks that' (the last also isolates you). I can also speak from experience here, and say that although it seems so subtle, it really is terribly damaging when it goes on over a long period of time. It causes you to start doubting your own perceptions; to start wondering if you actually are crazy.

Who is telling you these things? Whoever they are should as soon as possible be excluded from your life.

Trust us, we're all doctors. ;)

People will only express themselves like that when they're sure the listener needs them more than they need the listener in their lives. In other words, the listener will take it, has no choice. Society is a pecking order - in the family, in the group of friends, everywhere. People devote their lives to making themselves felt as necessary to others so they won't be abused. Nobody abuses a person they need more than that person needs them. This is why people study so hard to get important degrees, work so hard to make money (and buy useless stuff to show they have a lot of money). The key to respect from people is making them believe they need you more than you need them.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think these people who are treating you like this know that they "have you", in the sense that they believe that you're not able to or don't want to live independently with your baby. As the song says: "When they know they have you, then they really have you".

Mine too. As much as she cares for me, she doesn't do me any favors by telling me that what I'm feeling is stupid or wrong. It's just making me feel worse about myself in that moment. People like that don't get us, or the way we think. We're always here to support you though! :D

I hate people telling me (Aspergers or not) that I should not kill myself. They do not know my life

I think that I should kill myself, but I don't want to die a virgin so I will wait. Also, I'm constantly being invalidated, but have no sense of humor to invalidate their invalidation and I'm hyper-sensitive and emotional. :(

I loved that game! I've been looking for a pc version of it but so far haven't been lucky. Oh the fear that old witch used to conjure up in me! Did I get the pitch wrong? Had my dragon moved too far to the left? Then of course there was the joy of finding one of the children in the tree! Great memories of school and the old BBC computers.
