Just got over a really super bad right hemisphere headache..

I know that the Haven generally deals in emotional issues, but I thought I would document this really horrible headache I just experienced. It was brought on by a liquid herbal supplement that I took. I help run a small internet herbal business, and occasionally our suppliers will send us samples of things that they are trying to sell..
This think that I took was a liquid "shot" that was supposed to promote relaxation..it said on the bottle that it was good to take when feeling anxious and confused...(how I feel frequently)and it said that the serving about was the whole bottle...60 ml.....ANyway...the stuff was called "Serenity"-something...contained several ingredients including a large quantity of Kanna (Sceletium Tortuosum)...which is supposed to increase the seratonin uptake in the brain.

This "serenity" supplement at first made me feel really strange and buzzy, and jumpy, and very very hot...after a while I got this really weird intense headache...that did not feel like a normal headache..that was focused entirely on the right side of my head..and it felt very deep...and throbbing...and horrible...it made me cry...the crying helped relieve some of the pressure...and it also made me worry that i was suffering from some kind of hemorrage or stroke. i also felt nauseous and threw up a little...and I felt better in an inverted position...or with a bag of frozen vegetables on my head...and the horrible throbbing headache seemed to move all over the place, but only on the right side of my head......and it took a could of hours to go away...

Now I feel like I have just gone through this big weird release because the stuff has worn off..the headache is mostly gone, (though it occasionally surges up in little waves)..and I am in a cold sweat and left with this right brain tingly feeling...and sorta feel like I might after a meltdown....

I have not been taking any sort of medication lately..and I didn't even take my morning supplements...

I wish I knew why this stuff wreaked such havoc on the right side of my head..

Anyway...I am looking for this product on the internet...because I don't ahve the bottle with me....I want to contact the people and complain....I also want to warn others about it.

i hope the "serenity" you took was not ghb. i remember getting ghb from one of my steriod dealer friends (i didn't do steriods, he was just a good friend that happens to be a drug dealer) and he had cases of "serenity." it made me feel buzzed, heart raced, but very relax and sleepy after a while. it also heightened my sexuality and lowered my inhibitions. be careful about what you take.

This was an herbal supplement that is marketed to be sold in shops.

Sometimes these companies will make herbal supplements that will try to mimic other drugs that are illegal...and they will have similar names...

Are you sure you read the amount correctly. Kind of sounds like you took too much.

Yeah. It feels like I took too much. Flakey insisted that I drink the whole little bottle. It was about the size of one of those little energy boosters..like 5-hour-energy..The bottle said 60ml...serving size..60ml...and it also said in the directions that a person could take 2 servings at once.

It pretty much wrecked my whole evening...and I STILL have a headache...

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad headache. You were right when you said that companies make herbal supplements that try to mimic drugs. They search for "new" plant extracts to avoid regulation. Kanna actually contains a serotonin reuptake-inhibitor, so it's not different to any of the anti-depressants already on the market. It also contains an inhibitor that messes with your immune system.

Your headache was more than likely right-sided because that's where most of your serotonin receptors are located. The right hemisphere has more serotonin and norphenephrine receptors than the left, and the left hemisphere has more dopamine receptors than the right.

You were probably suffering from Serotonin Syndrome.

Yeah...maybe something like that.

I felt like there was some sort of rapid misfire that was happening in my head and the pain sorta felt like it took place in sort of conical shape inside my brain that seemed to move around...(that might have been an illusion)...

I am still worn out..

That stuff is dangerous...I am gonna tell the company once I find the empty bottle.

Aha! the distributor sent us another bottle..so I found the website on the bottle and gave them a piece of my mind!

Moral of story...don't drink stuff from little bottles that claim they will enhance your mood....

This stuff was supposed to be fake extasy....probably a lot more dangerous than the real thing.

Maybe it had something do with being autistic. It's marketed for the ungifted and since our brain wiring is different...could have an odd effect.

Can you use chamomile? I know sometimes people have allergies and can't. I've found it does seem to have a relaxing effect and seems slightly analgesic. I would wait until the other stuff is out of your system, though. I'm sorry to hear of your headache, I just got over a horrible day long migraine so I feel your pain. That other stuff sounds toxic.
