I have this problem. I am trapped between being perfect and being myself. Whenever I mess up, I get yelled at or get corrected. As much as I like the corrections, I am obsessed with being perfect. Even worse, I am scared. It was horrible. What should I do?

Just being very good at something is usually enough, if its important. But with many things it isn't important. If there is an element of being afraid of embarrassment it really is wasted effort and probably counterproductive. A really confident person isn't afraid to fail.

What was horrible? Who yelled at you? Your parents/guardians? Sounds like they instilled this unhealthy fear in you... although some clarification would help me to better understand your situation.

As for advice, this is a cliche, but be the best person you can be. No one is perfect; as much as you plan/prepare for whatever work you do, you will eventually make mistakes, and that's honestly okay. As long as you learn from that experience, then that's what really matters. Sometimes, it's the screw-ups that create opportunities for personal growth.

Hope that helps.

I never open up very much to anybody. It's not that I want to appear perfect, but that I don't want to appear as imperfect as I usually feel.

Most NTs have short memories, if you don't make a big deal of it it usually won't matter "in the big picture."
