I see so many people either in bad home situations, or are lamenting on how life is so horrible. I then see people giving them good advice about how to improve their situation, but I never see anyone take it. No "CPS got my parents GOOD!" or "I successfully pressed charges against my so-and-so!" or "I finally cut so-and-so out of my life!"
All this advice is easy to give, but in my time on WP, I've never seen anyone who posts in the haven actually helping themselves. In the end, they always end up posting again about the same thing. Nobody ever gets themselves an advocate, and the same stuff keeps happening to them. What's the point?

Those of us who post good advice keep hoping that someone will take it to heart.

my younger uncle in spain, whom i talk to only every few years, told me about friendly advice:

dont take it.
people who give them, never follow these advices, they give them to you, w the hope that youll test out their theories :D
of course he pointed out that advice is given w the best of intentions, but still, theyre "dream realities" often incompatible w real reality.

i found that surprisingly insightful, and ive kept it in "the back of my mind" ever since, both when giving and when asking for advice.

Makes a lot of sense, actually.
